The Amaze/Pixetra photography competition
Yesterday I went to IIPM, on the 100 ft Road, Koramangala, to look at the wildlife photography images that had been entered for the Photography Competition organized by IIPM and Pixetra as part of the AMAZE 2008 festival.
Pixetra , the photo store that recently opened at a second location at Spar Hypermarket, Bannerghatta Road, had invited Sudhir Shivaram , one of Bangalore’s finest wildlife photographers, to address the audience with a short talk about the basics of digital photography, and parameters to be considered in buying a camera.
Sudhir, as he always does, gave a very well-prepared slide presentation on the topic, and used plenty of illustrations to explain the common mistake photographers make with regard to both usage of their cameras/lenses, and composition and appeal of their photographs.
He then gave away the prizes for the competition, the theme of which was “A Moment in Time”, to the three young men whose photographs, along with the others, were a treat to look at. The third prize winner was Viswanath Vittal, for a lovely image of his nephew and friends …here he is, receiving the prize from Sudhir. His photograph is displayed on the screen:
The second prize-winner was Anand Yaligar, for his image of two Rose-Ringed Parakeets. Here he is, smiling as Sudhir hands him his certificate and gift coupons:
The first prize, for a beautiful photograph of a young boy jumping into the water in the vastness of a natural setting, was won by Shrivastav V Bhargav, pictured below ( in the photography-apt black-and-white print tee shirt!) coming up to receive his prize:
Here’s a section of the audience, drinking in Sudhir’s wise words keenly!
And here’s Sudhir, after the function was over, helpfully explaining a point to one of the members of the audience. The first-prize winning photograph can be seen to the left.
It was a pleasure seeing the images on display, and meeting up with a lot of photographers!
