Total mismanagement
On Monday evening, while traveling from Agara to Forum Mall via Madivala I was completely taken by surprise because of massive traffic pile up at the Madivala market. Initially, I thought that the reason might be because of the protest by some BJP supporters for obvious reasons.
Later, after spending frustrating one hour (hardly moving a km), I found out that it was all because of conversion of a section of Hosur Road (between Total Mall and St. Johns ground) from one-way to two-way. So, no right turn from Total Hypermarket towards Forum Mall and as a result there was a traffic pile up.
Well, no one really knows why this change was done overnight. Is this a long term change or just an experimentation ? God only knows. What I can say is that it could have been managed sensibly. There was no notification in newspapers or announcement regarding this new diversion. I understand that traffic jams are unpredictable, but in this case with prior notification vehicles would have taken deviation at the previous junction(s) itself, minimizing the traffic pile up and thousands of people wouldn’t have spent a frustrating one hour on the roads.
I remember seeing this conversion going on when I was there on Sunday morning. At that time, there were just barriers connected by ropes dividing the road into 2. And there were a lot of cops around. Just like you, I guessed it would have been for some govt. thing but I guess that’s wrong.
The direction of roads changes overnight in Bangalore. I faced the same problem with the road in front of Garuda mall. Dint have a clue when the switched that. And for all you know, they will switch it back again overnight.
Well Said Shande!!!
May be to help Total. This 2-way system is causing heavy traffic jam with vehicles stranded at the flyover. I don’t know for whom are these traffic police working?
Well, you beat me to this post. I was caught in this melee for 2 days as I take this route after work. I was stuck for more than 20-25 minutes on the road. I can’t even imagine whose half baked idea it was. The one way road was working well. Who would even think of converting it into a two way with the amount of traffic it takes. Really strange. Anyway, on the 3rd day, they changed it back again!
