The Landmark Open Quiz,Chowdiah Hall, 01 Nov 07
The Landmark Open Quiz was held for the fourth year running, at Chowdiah Memorial Hall, on the 1st of November.
As registration was open to everyone, and free, there were more than 250 teams registered by the time the event got under way. The stage was set:
qThe preliminary round of 40 questions whittled down the number of teams to eight, and they took their places on the stage, and Derek O’Brien started quzzing them with his usual wisecracks and audience questions peppering the proceedings.
Here’s one question from the prelims…can you get the right answer? (Look at the end of this post.)
The contest was a very keen one with first one team, and then another, getting really tough questions right. Ultimately, however, the last round was a battle between two teams …QED and WWW. The head of team WWW, Sushila Kamath, was voted the best Individual Quizzer:
And the battle ended with WWW getting the second prize:
And the winners were QED, and they were cheered to the echo by the appreciative audience!
One of the nice parts of the quiz was that Derek O’Brien mentioned how hard the Landmark team had worked for the quiz, and rather than have some celebrity give away the prizes, he asked the members of the Landmark team to do so. We really appreciated his appreciation! So often, the people behind the scenes do a lot of hard work for an event but never get mentioned at all!
A very enjoyable evening, with master showman Derek at his best….!
….oh, and the answer to the question? Pratibha Patil, of course…
Thats a good piece of info! Kudos to the winners and people who were there to learn and enjoy :)
One request: info about such kinda programmes if posted before they happen would reach out more to people and help them join the fun along!
The quiz was nice learning and entertaining experience(without entry fee). Derek O’Brien brought the house down many times with his one liners.
Deepa, you didn’t mentioned amount of gifts won by audience for answering the questions. In the final rounds Derek was ordering volunteers to give away gifts to the entire row :)
also, it’s unfair not to mention about the team which nicknamed ‘Crows’ on the spot, Derek pulled their legs many times, ultimately ended up as the most popular team.
by the way, were you there as a participant ? just curious ….
Missed it!!!
I was there.. and it was really a nice evening.. and yes, you should have mentioned about the crows.. I actually checked this blog to find whether there is any narration about the ‘Pantene Brand Ambassador’.. ;) And I think its a common knowledge that the Landmark quiz is held in Bangalore every first of November. Still, if there are some post about such events before it happens, it wud have been helpful..
Nice post, but we did deserve a mention, I think, for the entertainment value we provided :)
