Navaratri Begins…

Navaratri, or Dasshera, begins today; everywhere, the festive spirit is around…

Here’s a picture of my friend ighting the lamp in front of her Golu:

The Veena is also kept in the puja to be venerated on Saraswathi Puja Day, and played afresh on Vijayadashami.

And here’s a picture of one of the Durga Pujas, at a Bengaluru Pandal, taken last year:

I would like to report on the Ramzan festivities, which are at the same time this year. How pleasant to have other communities celebrating their festivals together!

Hi Deepa, wonderful pictures capturing the festive spirit that is prevailing all over the country at the moment.

Not to sound too regional, but, seeing that this a blog about Bengaluru, perhaps the sentence should read: “Here’s a picture ………in front of her Gombe” and not Golu???, which I understand is the Tamil term for the festival.

Maybe Gombe is also not the right Kannada word for it – in which case, my apologies and please let me know what the right word is.

Happy festivities!!! Also, along with Ramzan/Eid pictures, probably photos of Garba/Dandiya to completely capture the spirit?

    Hi, friend
Navratri is a Hindu festival of worship and dance. The word Navaratri literally means

nine nights in Sanskrit; Nava – Nine and Ratri – nights. During these nine nights and

ten days, nine forms of Shakti female divinity are worshipped .The 9 nights festival

of Navratri begins on the first day of Ashwina of the bright fortnight.
