Our “trip” to Tumkur

Today, a group of us decided to go towards Tumkur, and at about 1pm I set out from home, picked up a friend at Wilson Garden, and…tried to go to Malleswaram to pick up another. Tried.

Right from Kasturba Road onwards, the traffic was jam-packed; one part of the road had been cordonned off; and by the time I got to the opposite-Vittal-Mallya-Road entrance of Cubbon Park, it was nearly 2pm, and when I realized that both the Cubbon Park road AND Kasturba Road were blocked off, we decided to call off our trip, and came home.

Politicians and their shenanigans hold our city hostage. How can TWO arterial roads be cut off at their behest? We had no urgent work to do, nothing much to accomplish, so cancelling our trip was no big deal for us. But what if I had a sick person in the car? What I was rushing for some emergency somewhere?

I feel annoyed…and helpless, and powerless, that as an ordinary citizen of this city, I have, apparently, no rights to use the roads I want to, when I want to use them.

The newspapers had warned of possible disruption in traffic between 1100 and 1400 hrs becasue of BJP agitation and procession.

You should have taken them seriously.

    Hi Deepa,
Leaving the politicians away from this, I would advise you not to take these roads any other time too as they are always crowded.
An alternative route to reach Malleshwaram from Wilson garden is .. Minerva circle.. chamrajpet.. below the flyover.. railway station.. Malleshwaram.
This way you do add an addditional 4 odd kilometers, but the traffic keeps moving.
The idea is to avoid Majestic/MG Road area as much as possible.
