1000th Performance at Ranga Shankara: a Photo Feature
The 12th of September,2007, was a memorable day for Ranga Shankara, as it staged the 1000th performance of a play at this venue.
The lady whose brainchild Ranga Shankara has been, was there, guiding the spirit of the celebration…
I am sure she was so happy so see how her efforts had borne fruit, and made a great new theatre space for south Bangalore.
An exhibition of the various plays performed over the years was put up at the foyer, and many friends of Ranga Shankara who are notable for their contributions to theatre, such as Girish Karnad, were there…
Here’s Aru herself, clicking images of some of it:
Here’s a view of some of the exhibtion….
Here are some of the press clippings that were put up:
The lamps were lit….
A group of people who have worked tirelessly for Ranga Shankara got together, and with some vigorous drumming, led off into a medley of folk songs, in which Arundhati herself joined in with gusto:
A large crowd gathered to cheer team Ranga Shankara on; it included young and old….
There were a lot of professional photographers recording the event, but I didn’t get discouraged!
I too added my good wishes for the continued success of Ranga Shankara, and then everyone went upstairs to see the play of the evening, “Pampabharata”, which was also open to children that evening. (MY review of the play appears in the Bangalore Mirror either today or tomorrow.)
A lovely, festive atmosphere lent warmth to the rainy evening, and we all felt very happy to be participating in this landmark evening….!
deepa, nice to see you made it for the 1000th show! quite a landmark and it’s really an amazing space for theatre in south bangalore. something that was missing for a long time.
Well…actually, I think H N Kalakshetra HAS been around for a long time, what was, I think, needed, was a multilingual, more experimental theatre space. Do you know that RS is just about 2 km from where I live, and fits in neatly with my don’t-take-the-car-out-if-possible resolve? Theatre plus a 4 km walk…good for mind and body!
thanks deepa.
Is there a regularly updated site with the calendar of events for Ranga Shankara? http://www.rangashankara.org doesnt seem to be up to date. Do let me know.
thanks
