Tales from TIMESNOW

Recently Times Now a news channel showed a report on how easy to carry a weapon (read Gun) in to pubs in Bangalore (later showed about other cities too), After watching the program I still didn’t understood what is the need to expose the security loop holes in the Pubs, Is Pubs are some military base or house of parliament to have a tight security? Also channel should understand where in our country they have a security check in pubs.
The concern they gave is the shootout in the pub last year on St.Marks road by an politicians son, But i would like to ask Times Now that i can show you the shootouts in Temples,Court,Trains,Road,Mosque, call center and many more places, so that means that all these places need to have a tight security check ?

Can’t understand the standards of the channels.

Agree with you Shadow. It seems like the news channel was just looking for some sting to boost their ratings. At this rate every other place will need strict security which isn’t feasible.

Shadow, I agree with you that we cannot have tight security in public places like a pub, hotel etc. but at the same time installing a automated metal detector at the entrance will definitely deter people from carrying a weapon which I am sure they do not intend to use in a stable state, but who can guarantee anything when one is inebriated. Remember “Prevention is better than cure”.

On a different note, you need to work on your grammar :-)

Hello, I didnt see this news live. But I thought the point they were making was not about the security at pubs, but the easy availability of Guns. Rather, Gun Culture creeping into our system.

    Roshan,Thanks, I agree with u.

    Sriram,Thank n i’l work on grammar part.

    Mohan,Thanks, I agree with u.

    Sandip,
I would have appreciated if it was about the availability of guns, But this report was purely about the security checks @ pubs, In order to prove the loop holes there reporters were carrying a unloaded guns in to pubs.
BTW easily availability of guns and licenses in northern part of India was exposed few days back by CNN IBN, I doubt this was a counter program for that by Times Now but they ended by security checks @ pubs.

Well I would politely disagree with your opinion here. I am of the opinion that gun possession itself (unless extremely necessary) should be looked down upon, let alone carrying it into public places like pubs. Fine, one may claim that he/she is under threat and thus needs to carry a gun for self-protection. But then such a person would rather not visit a pub where one is exposed to a possibility of being harmed in the crowd. I guess it’s become a prestigious thing to have a gun on one’s person.
I personally condemn the politician’s son who caused an uproar by shooting inside a pub. And I think such issues must be made public so that the person responsible is brought under the microscope and such acts are not repeated.
