Davangere Dosa, anyone??
The Thippasandra Main Road leading to BEML is as chaotic as it can get in Bangalore. People, 2 / 3 & 4 wheelers, cows, bullock carts, shops, markets, departmental stores ….the works. Basically, a microcosm of India, in one single road.
Ah, I forget one other enterprise that flourishes on this stretch. Eateries. Of every conceivable type – restaurants, sandarshinis, sandarshinis, kabab stalls, chat shops, juice stalls – and catering to all tastebuds, stand-up or sit down…you name it…its there.
And so, yours truly was surprised by this unique restaurant by name Dr. Shekar’s Dosa featuring ..nay, starring Davengere Butter Dosa.
It was enough to make my mouth water. Not wanting to pass the opportunity, I plonked myself immediately and asked for the menu,
then ordered the Special…you guessed it – The Davengere Butter Masala Dosa. 3 minutes later, it arrived in style, crisp, roasted just about right, braised with enough of fiery red ginger/garlic & red chilly paste and topped with enough butter to give the Amul girl a complex. Chutney was its accompaniment. No sambar. It was unique, it was!!!!!
Apparently, the rice is not from Davangere but a special one and is available/bought from City Market, retailing at about 27/- bucks a kg. As compared to what, I queried. Deftly ignoring it, I’m told that the special rice gives the dosa its softness and smooth texture.
Having washed it down with piping hot filter coffee, I’m too sated to argue.
If you are game, we can try it again! Of course, you get to pay!
Ravi,
Count me this time, I guess they started Devanagere dosey recently right ?
Ah, another food post with a slurp-slurp picture in it!
If it was really that good, I am game Ravi, tell me when!?
Me game too Ravi/Shadow/Silkboard. Its time we caught up once.
@Shadow: Recently as in a couple of months is what I was told.
@SB: Anytime, chief. Do you really need a timeframe? :)
@Lokesh: Great to see your enthu. Lets go!
let’s do this on Saturday morning!! I am game too!!
Okay done. Sat morning then. Readers welcome as well. Ravi, 8 am okay?
Absolutely!
How come none of the readers want to join other than your fellow metrobloggers?
Just a coincidence?
I would have joined but incidentally not in Bangalore now. For heaven’s sake, please don’t post photos of such dishes I don’t want to salivate my laptop’s keyboard and monitor :-D. Enjoy and have a nice time. Happy dosa-ing…
There’s also a place at Netakalappa Circle in NR Colony that is famous for its Davengere Benne Masala Dosa. Its a tiny place and you have stand outside on the footpath to eat, but the quality of the food is incredible. There are 2 places at NR colony but the original (and better) one is near cool joint, next to ICICI bank.
@Bala,
Co-incidence? Hmmm. I think not! Its proof that people cannot put their money (i.e accept an invitation!) where their mouth (i.e commenting) is! Et tu, brute? Nothing personal, buddy!
Cheers!
Ravi
@Simi,
What to do? As they say in Hindi ” Aadath pad gayee hai!”. You’ll see more pics like them after our meet up on Saturday!
Cheers,
Ravi
@Theo,
Thanks for that bit of info. Should I be around that place one of these days, I shall visit the places in question and dedicate a post to you!
Thanks for reading Blr MB and commenting.
Cheers,
Ravi
had been to this place? but did not like the stuff really :|
@Saaya:
Wellllllll, you know what they say about one man’s food being another’s …….
:)
I think one that Theo mentioned is Ganesh dosa very close to Jayanagar 4th block complex. They give mouth watering dosa too :)
Unfortunately people I cant join u, cuz I fast on Saturdays :|
@Janum: Congratulations on your new house…thats quite an achievement. Am happy for you!! Thanks for dropping by at Blr MB and your comment.
Cheers,
Ravi
All u guys are missing the head office of DBD(Davangere Benne Dose ). Its near Sarakki bus stop. Most of the people from teh Kannada filmdom have visited this place including Rajkumar & his family. The owner proudly diplays the famous visitors photo on teh walls of teh hotel. And abt dose ayyo tumba super kanri.
One more info teh NR Colony guy has open a branch near BSK2nd stage BDA office next to CCD. even here taste is awesome :)
Thanks, Karthik. I will check it out one of these days, for sure!
Ravi,
Metroreaders have better things to do on a saturday than dosa hunting as the metrobloggers do.
Nothing personal buddy.
Cheers
Bala
@ Bala:
Touche.
But the difference is that WE metbloggers are meeting up over breakfast, Bala. There IS a difference, you know and if you can’t decipher that, you really need to do something about your I.Q
Never knew Dosa had something to do with Mensa club membership!
That was really enlightening. Your replies are getting more and more mental(ly engaging).
Never knew dosa-hunting lead to Mensa club membership.
That was enlightening. :)
And you’re repeating yourself, ad nauseam, as everybody here can make out. So senility is your problem too, apart from questionable intelligence? You really need to check into NIMHANS, buddy.
I repeated coz, it dint showup the comment on your blog. Never knew your blog was slooooow in showing comments. It dint show-up for a whole 10 mins!
Cool it, dont get personal. What you just saw is a comment on your personal not your NIMHANS report.
Bala – BTW, why the change in your last comment over the previous one? Scared, aren’t you?
Bala,
Now you contradict yourself. You really are a specimen, aren’t you? BTW, I don’t post on MB as MUCH as you comment. Shouldn’t you be doing something worthwhile with your time? Just where do you work, btw?
Ravi
PS: Your call, when to stop these exchanges, pal.
Akshay,
I mean when you form a sentence again after 10 mins you cant re-phrase it word for word. Elementary my dear. If I were indeed scared, would have been anonymous like you, not hyperlinked.
Ravi,
You call me mental, specimen, senile and I retain my equanimity and dont deride into personal abuse. I agree it isnt much worthwhile reading metroblogs and I am surprised you are of the same opinion.
PS: Abuse is the last resort of the vanquished.
Bala,
Very clever, that ‘P.S’…don’t delude yourself, chum. See carefully above and you’ll notice the provocation sparked by your comment.
BTW, many of us here will not miss you should you decide not to turn up around these parts.
Adios!
Ravi
Thanks for the turn-around calling me clever. Senile to clever…all it took was a few words of mine to change your opinion :)
I am sure you would not miss me and would continue in your delusive world of “wah! kya dosa hai”.
A parting piece of advice, learn how to speak in public forum without childishly resorting to abuse. More so, when you claim to speak on behalf of all of Bangalore.
Bala,
no way any of MB ariters claim to write on behalf of Bangalore, but about the Bangalore…
Take time to have the dosa with us…
To Bala,
Now that you’ve given your ‘parting piece of advice’ to Ravi, thanks for leaving. Bye.
@Ravi,
You know what they say about letting ‘sleeping dogs’ lie???? ;)
thanks Ravi.. u could’ve rather written this comment in my blog itself! thanx anyways :)
Anonymous Akshay,
I shall let you lie!
@Bala: Thanks, I will. But how can I, when you do all the barking, whining and groaning around here?
Let us in peace, please.
AA,
I insulted the dog by subtly comparing it to you., atleast it has a mind.
Mind your words. If you want peace run off to Iceland.
You guys dont own this blog do you? As bloggers if you are uncomfortable with my comments, raise it to metroblog authorities or whatever. Its none of your business to decide who visits and who comments as long as it is within the terms contained in the “Terms of Service”
I have every right to air my opinions, if you get viciously personal, it would expose your incompetence and insecurity to all those who read.
“A little rudeness and disrespect can elevate a meaningless interaction to a battle of wills and add drama to an otherwise dull day”
– Calvin and Hobbes.
PS Forgot to add that, now dont accuse me of senility!
Ya Allah…who is this joker? Can someone kick him out, pls?
bala, here is an unsolicited sugestion for you, why don’t you join the metbloggers list. forget individual bloggers, you go ahead and publish what you know & feel about the city. good or bad. show us your sense of belonging-ness & ownership. show us that there is more to your being a banglorean than being an oppurtunist.
bottom line. draw your own rangoli instead of shitting on somebodyelse’s hoslu.
I think you hv manged to shut him up, Tarlesubba for which act, thank you. yes, i feel he would be good at drawing ‘rangolis’ …. our neighbour’s daughter wants a teacher!
Khalid,
How come you know about everything your neighbour’s daughter wants.Your neighbour better wakeup. I can be mean when I want to. So mind your business.
Tarlesubba,
If I am opportunist, I would just be yet another “Wah Kya Dosa Hai” blogger here. However, I like your train of thought that one should contribute. I think the best way for me to contribute is to comment on the things I like and that I dont. If you notice there a few blogs that I appreciated (though I must admit they are few).
Ravi, Khalid, Akshay, Tarle: Easy, guys! Your efforts seem to be in vain. Lets all give up in the face of this comic character.
Bala: Please continue to comment, rave, rant, gripe, blast, complain, expose, ramble, BITCH, whatever … in general, whatever you excel at EXCEPT contributing as a blogger, as Tarle suggests.
BTW, this post is nearing 50 comments which is history in the making … thanks to you!
