WOODY’S at Kolar

If you head out east on NH4 and want to eat at a decent place, then Woody’s is a good bet. It is located right on NH4, outside of Kolar. After you leave the Bangalore city limits, you will reach here in about an hour’s time. The ‘Woody’s’ display board is not very conspicuous from the highway. So, you will have to keep an eye to your right after about an hour of leaving Bangalore, to locate it.

Outside seating

The restaurant provides seating both outside and inside. The inside setup is about ok, and serves the prupose of a highway eatery.

It is a south Indian vegetarian joint and serves piping hot yummy food. We happened to stop by this place for breakfast, and ordered chow chow bath, idli, vada, pongal, and coffee. All of these were pretty good, and the kesari bath literally dissolved in our mouths! Yum! The coffee was refreshing and just right.

The idlis were good and served as the kids’ breakfast. The kids liked the idlis and ate ’em well with the chutney. Overall, I can say that all of us were happy with the food and the break.

The restaurant has toilets outside. These are alright and nothing to write home about! Oh well!

How much did they pay you to write an advertisement as a blog?

  5. Chitra (unregistered) on April 24th, 2007 @ 2:29 pm

@ januM, I am quite sure this belongs to the chain of Woody’s that we all are so familiar with in Bangalore. However, I can’t confirm this. I am surprised how a lot of businesses have no contact info on the web. Really, quite archaic. One static website, what does it take?

@ Bala, does this post sound like an advert? Hmmm, I am not really raving about the interiors or about the toilets. Just the food, only because it was good. As bloggers for Bangalore Metroblogging, none of us makes any money. I was not paid to write this. Unfortunately, you just have to take my word for it.

    Bala – dude. Lighten up.

The reality is this is may be the only place on the highway that’s got decent food in that area. (I know that there is an yatri nivas but have not been able to locate it in all my drives on that highway).

A lot of the folks who drive – leave early – and having breakfast in the Kolar areas makes a lot of sense. If you know of any other place that is in that neighbourhood please contribute to the post.

Chitra, Nice photos… However, in my experience the food was not at all tasty both the times I had dined from there. Then why the 2nd time too – huh? Well, we had no other option in the highway. In my opinion the one at Kolar get business mainly because of the location and not much for the taste.

    Ramkumar,

Is your lighten up an euphemism for shut-up? Dont preach on contributing about an obscure drive-in hotels in god-forsaken towns.

I hate it when the blog medium becomes yet another Times of India parading useless commercials as “content”

Bala, it maybe an obscure drive-in, however you will need it since there is nothing else decent on that stretch. At least, we were glad that we found this one. Anyway, I fail to see how this post is a commercial, especially since that was not the intention. When you are on the road and need some place to eat, being informed in advance can help, especially if you have kids on board.

    Chitra,

Look: metroblogging bangalore > eateries at Bangalore!

On the homepage you guys have

“Music, beer and conversation @ Jukebox”
    “The “Pav-Bhaji” Quest!!”
    “Woody’s at Kolar”

and some american eating some udipi stuff…

This not a udipi blog for chrissake, its Bangalore!

The best hallmark for a writer is to be silent and not get defensive when critiqued

    Bala,

Cool off. You are right this is not a food blog but a blog for anything and everything about Bangalore then food is one of the categories.

pls feel free to suggest the stories which you wish to read and any of us would consider it for our next post!!

    keep reading metblogs!!

    Rajesh,
I was never hot to start-off with or even now, you folks are getting just too worked up. Just commented, after-all this is the comments section.

I think disappearance of the promenade in MG road is more topical than the veritable idli, vada-pav joints of Bangalore. I dont see that anywhere here! Imagine you are a bangalorean out of the city, wouldnt you want to read about it.

Cheer-up man & woman. Feel free to comment in my blog, I shall be more gracious! :P

  14. Chitra (unregistered) on April 26th, 2007 @ 11:22 pm

Bala, I am guessing you are a new reader. I don’t know if you have read our previous posts, but I have myself written about the promenade.

BTW, we know Bangaloreans who are out of the country and love our food posts and request pics of food. :)

  15. Bala (unregistered) on April 27th, 2007 @ 7:56 am

Well the promenade got pulled down recently and I dont see pics of that anywhere. I see an utopian architectural drawing of the “future” metro. I would have loved to see a last glimpse of the promenade recorded here for eternity. However, folks are busy photographing the last vada they devoured. Afterall vadas are closer home and who wants to drive to MG road to take the pics anyways. Let the MSM cover that would have been the attitude.

BTW, I am surprised your readers place requests for idli, vada pics. I assume any sensible online reader would go to flickr and fishout pics of every kind if he is craving for them (hope you get the pun)

You are more and more sounding like the MSM, whenever someone feels their content should improve they get defensive saying “this is what our readers want” as though their write-ups are a result of massive all-city market-survey conducted every other day.

PS: Overnight, I see an addition on route to Potluck restaurant. Get well soon.
