The New Road Connect….
This weekend, a few of us went driving to Yercaud (that’s a nice quick getaway for Bangaloreans, but it can’t be the subject of a Metroblog post!)
On the way out, we took the usual route, via Silk Board junction and Hosur; but on the way back, we decided to try out the NICE road connecting Hosur Road to Bannerghatta Road, and were pleasantly surprised.
One takes the left-hand side of the road from the Hosur highway just before the Infosys complex (there is actually a sign up, too, saying, “Bannerughatta Road”!) and it’s very smooth going up until a stretch which takes you into a “Diversion” (also, amazingly, clearly marked on the road, and easy to spot at night.)
The “diversion”, of course, is a wonderful stretch of lunar landscape where whatever belongs to Earth…buildings, plants, trees…are all coated with layers of dust that only an experienced Egyptologist could excavate through. It goes up and down for a while, but just when you are wondering if you did right in listening to your friends and moving away from the main highway, you find yourself on Bannerghatta Road, a little beyond the Meenakshi Temple area. Since yesterday, 24 March, was a Sunday as well, we made it back to the Jayadeva Circle in about 15 minutes from the time we made it on to Bannerghatta Road. However, this road is also likely to be choked during weekday traffic times.
However, it is commendable that an effort is being made to connect up two arterial roads such as Bannerghatta Road and the Bangalore-Hosur-Chennai highway, which will bypass the congestion of Electronics City and the Silk Board junction. Let’s hope the litigation that is keeping the diversion in place right now, is sorted out fast, and South Bangaloreans have a viable alternative when they get back in from Hosur to the city!
Nice to know that the Hosur Road-Bannerghatta Road section is mostly complete. There’s a similar situation on the Bannerghatta Road-Kanakapura road section — it’s complete except for some 200 m stretch near the bannerghatta road side, which is under litigation. The Kanakapura road-Mysore road section is quite complete, and there is an awesome full cloverleaf intersection somewhere in the middle of this stretch.
I hope trucks travelling to mysore road are able to take this route soon. It should ease congestion on Hosur road a bit.
The Road from Electronic city(near konappana Agrahara) to Gottigere off Banerghatta road is almost Complete. Most of the cab drivers and Private vehicles are plying on this road since January. I had a Good Drive from Gottigere(Chikka Kammanahalli) to Electronics city in mid January. All the sub roads hav been already blocked, Coz its pay and Go. Rite now its free….. So, the PPL from Arkere, IIM, Meenakshi temple, hulimavu, Gottigere, Bannerghatta, waivers Colony and sorrunding areas ppl can use this road to electronic city.
deepa…
thanks for posting this.
is the interchange at hosur rd to BMIC-PRR complete?
