“Yelli Iddira”, Where are you Volvo?

I tried this and it worked! No not giving the position but message like…“Sorry, No data available presently for this route, for details pls visit http://yi.clinf.com, Thank you!”

Not bad!! Technology has come helping hand when you are fed up with No-No Auto’s ( the species only found on Bangalore Roads and is protected by RTO to be wild and always nodding heads saying “No No” once customer approaches”) and despite more demand and less supply still if you dream of traveling via AC Volvos…all you have to do is SMS and you get the location of the route within 5 seconds…

The service, appropriately called “Yelli Iddira,” entails a message “Where are you,” eliciting the answer in the likes of “I am near Corporation bus stop now.” The service is available on six Volvo routes,

YIV335ED.JPG

To avail oneself of the facility, one has to send an SMS from the mobile phone in the following manner — YI {lt}Volvo Route Number{gt} {lt}U or D{gt} to 9945634666. for example, if you are at Whitefield near ITPL and wish to know the location of Route No. V355E, send an SMS reading YI V355E U, where YI stands for Yelli Iddira? V355 for the route number and U stands for `up’ direction meaning from ITPL towards City. You are sure to get an answer. The service is being offered with the help of Global Positioning System (GPS) and Geographical Information System (GIS) that are integrated through GPRS. Simply put the data collected on periodical levels via GPS about the location is transferred via GPRS facility of telecom provider to the main server which interacts with SMS gateway and serves the answer…

Unfortunately site does not show the real-time positions too which technically they can as the data is available on the server…also they seem not open for suggestions or feedback as the links from their site does not work which I am sure will be on the offering list!! Good going Volvos, at least a customer centric approach when bus route frequencies are less..

    rajesh,
great post. in my opinion, bmtc is doing a great job with their service, given the constraints they work with. once the metro comes in and the pressure is eased on the bmtc, they will deliver an even finer service, I’m sure. as a bangalorean, i’m proud of them!
    cheers,
    ravi

Thanks SB, Ravi, I guess there are quite afew signs of intellect and intent in the Govt and Adminstration space. Perhaps the sudden Mteropolitan surge / touch gave many a higher learnign curve!!
