R V Dental College

Today I went to RV Dentail College to get a filling done, and to have my teeth cleaned and polished…

This place is something I am positive about. Smaller tasks are carried out by undergraduate students (from the 3rd year onwards) and more major ones by post-graduate students…and all under the supervision of the professors of each department.

I have had root canal treatment done a few years ago by one of the “best” dentists of Chennai, with good-looking dentists, air-conditioned waiting rooms, and a lovely ambience. The treatment cost me over eighteen thousand rupees…and had to be re-done twice ( a total of three stretches of hell) because of a botched-up job, which they never admitted to….

Here, for the final time, I had the root canal redone. The persisting problem was correctly identified, and for a total cost of about Rs.2000 it was done, and properly… I have had no problems since.

Today, I got a nervous student. You would think this was a cause for alarm, wouldn’t you? No, because….the professor immediately noted her nervousness, asked her to start the work and then call her (the prof) in for observation. The prof stood by as she completed the filling, took a look carefully, and okayed the treatment.

Tell me…in how many private dentists’ waiting rooms would you know where s/he had trained, and how good hes competence was? Where, for a fraction of the cost of private treatment, would you get clean, airy rooms, with the work supervised at all levels?

My teeth will always be care of RVDC..and if and when, the time comes, I hope they make my dentures, too!

I made the mistake of going to a dentist in Adyar, Chennai about five years back. There was no reason to – I just wanted a general cleanup, or so I thought. The junior doctor @ the posh clinic reduced my teeth to such a condition, that I can’t eat a chocolate without my teeth hurting even now.
