Kamat’s loka ruchi @ Ramnagaram
– An afternoon lunch at Kamat’s roka ruchi @ Ramnagaram, a traditional kanara way
When it is food, Kamat’s are quite serious about the taste, ingredients and the service, simply to say they have redefined the hospitality industry as a standard. With a long day at hand we decided to drive down for a afternoon meal at Kamat’s Lokaruchi at Ramnagaram, on Mysore – Bangalore Road (approx 50 kms from Bangalore towards your right if your driving from Bangalore).. near the famous janapada loka!
Enter the property and you are greeted by a landscaped gardens and stone supported structures with Mangalorean roof with traditional furniture. Off course the aroma could tempt you from not moving around and head straight for the tables of the seating area on to grab your meals…
They serve almost all Karnataka snacks and foodie delicacies like Ragi Mudde, Kadabu etc with three varieties of meals ( South style, North Canara style and Mangalorean style ) we preferred the North canara style lunch served with jawar roti’s…yumm!!
The atmosphere is like a village, you feel you are sitting in a an old fashioned house with people wearing traditional canara style attires and very homely food being cooked and served on banana leaves….
The structure made with stones and the otla i.e. pathways converted into dinning area’s looking out to gardens and trees with ducks moving around makes the experience even richer…
The walls have great paining flowing through almost from one end the another and the bamboos hanging some ripe bananas, onions just the way your great grannies house back in the village….
After a full meal you wonder what do they offer on sweets or to visit the juice bar.., oh, a full decked wooden cupboards near the entrance would utterly confuse you on what to choose from’s, Holige i.e. Puran poli’s, Dink laddo’s ( they have this special laddu’s made with edible tree glue quite a great taste) …..
The juice bar just outdside the main building offeres fresh sugar cane juice…
For those who wanted to taste the true canara style food and with a little hour away drive out of city…try being there…

I hate people calling it RamanagaraM, Natively it is called RAMANAGARA.
@ Mehek > thanks.. keeps me going!!
@K ok, i guess Kamat’s are the natives of Kamat lokaruchi and they prefer calling it Ramanagaram ( check their site for address, link provided in the main post ) also along with PWD mentioning the same on road signs…
;-)
More pictures of food. What a wonderful way to user in the New Year. Yes. We eat here often. The children love it. They even have a small cowshed with happy looking cows. I love the kadabu. The hot leaves have to be slowly unwound before you can get to the idli. Really nice place and extremely clean.
All good, but not the food or service. Will save my review for a post.
Even we had a new year blast @ Kamat. Awesome place.Drive from Blr and a heavy lunch @ Kamat and cool evening @ Big Banayan tree—- A perfect picnic :)
