Radio Indigo rocks! Because it plays international music.

I have a problem with the approach of most of them! They all want to serve everything- Hindi, Kannada, English! In my opinion, they need to find a niche and not just try to do everything.

I await the NDTV and BBC services. All i know is that they won the licenses for bangalore.

BBC and Mid-day run the 94.3 FM. NDTV .. wonder what they will do!

    According to me,

94.3 & 98.3 seems to be very decent

    and

93.5 SFM is the most focussed with only Kannada songs

Do any of these channels have an internet broadcast ?
Being in the US(originally from Bengaluru) I am curious as to the content of the these FM channels that I keep seeing/hearing references to in blogs and news stories.

Another notable omission is Amruthavarshini channel from All India Radio. Frequency is 100.1 Mhz.

It plays between 6pm to 10 pm everyday with carnatic music between 6pm to 9pm and Hindustani Music between 9pm and 10pm.

It is great channel if you are interested in Indian classical music.

It is very irritating to hear RJs speak in Kannada which i don’t understand. My question is why are they playing Hindi songs after talking “yap yap yap” in Kannada? Why not play only Kannada songs and make it fully Kannada? Isn’t this hypocrisy on part of pro-kannada people? By the way, the advertisements(because of which the channel runs) are targeted towards the cosmo IT crowd. Then why this drama of Kannada pride?

  10. dotslash (unregistered) on November 12th, 2006 @ 10:03 am

    @cosmopolitan,
for the simple reason that because kannadigas like to hear hindi music too?

Whether you like it or not, even non-kannada (south indians) speaking people would prefer to hear kannada RJ than English or Hindi.

And your assumption of cosmopolitan == (hindi or English) shows how cosmoplitan you are NOT.

So, from when did hindi became cosmopolitan? Some cow belt logic this is.

    Radio BIG is the king.
within one month of launch they have manage to wean away a lot of people. I listen to it not less than 1.5 hours a day, which is > 90% of my total radio time.

  12. Cosmopolitan (unregistered) on November 12th, 2006 @ 4:19 pm

Mr. Dotslash, you equating Hindi to cow belt logic shows how much parochial you are. Hindi is spoken in Delhi and Mumbai too which are much more advanced metros than Bangalore. FYI, I am a South Indian too. And your logic of kannada people liking Hindi music too is a joke. Because 90% of the songs in these FMs are Hindi. I can understand if 50% of songs are kannada songs. They and the advertisements are directed towards the high spending IT crowd of Bangalore which is mostly non-Kannada. So, talking in Kannada is hypocrisy if nothing else. Do you mean to say the Kannada crowd likes to listen to latest Hindi songs fully of party beats. From what i know, the kannada crowd of old part of Bangalore likes old Hindi songs more than the latest Hindi music. You can keep living in denial if you want but this is nothing but hypocrisy and some vain and useless kannada pride.

“And your logic of kannada people liking Hindi music too is a joke.”
Hmm… we will take your word for it because you know all about by being a kannadiga… oh! wait you are not one. What an irony

“They and the advertisements are directed towards the high spending IT crowd of Bangalore which is mostly non-Kannada.”
So, in your opinion kannadiga crowd is not high spending? Hmm… good for them, probably they have better financial sense than you

“So, talking in Kannada is hypocrisy if nothing else.”
This is your opinion, so I will leave it that..

“from what i know, the kannada crowd of old part of Bangalore likes old Hindi songs more than the latest Hindi music.”
Perhaps because they have better taste in music? I’m guilty as charged about this “old-hindi” music funda.

“You can keep living in denial if you want but this is nothing but hypocrisy and some vain and useless kannada pride.”
So, whoever pokes fun at your rants is a hypocrite . I get it, its like – if you are not with me, you are with the terrorists logic… Interesting..

    Any way guys,
I have decided to switch to World space. Being a hindi speaker, I can’t comprehend kannada. Atleast worldspace plays proper hindi music without those disturbing ad’s and kannada speaking RJ’s whom I can’t understand/bear. (No offense)

Earlier when Radio City was running.. I had to jump to MP3 discs to listen to Kannada/English music. But then with the advent of so many channels.. my MP3 player in car is going dry :-).. along with Radio city ofcourse (for a long time I hadnt realized that it had shifted the frequency!!) Now its a interesting combo of kannada, hindi and english!!!
Its nice to hear the jocks talking the language that we are so much used to i.e. English interpersed with Kannada.. Lot of my non-kannadiga friends also love to hear these jocks.. Ofcourse I think the pioneer is ofcourse “Sakath Hot Maga” .. Radio Mirchi.
