Gas connections – Possible solution

On august 8, I wrote about the problems faced by people who have just moved into bangalore in obtaining a gas connection.
A lot of people wrote in to talk about the problems they have encountered in this regard.
I managed to contact someone fairly high up in the Food and Civil Supplies department who gave me this information:
Ration cards are no longer issued for people above the poverty line.
However for reasons such as gas connections , people may apply for a “honorary card” at a price of Rs.45. These are issued within a few days of application.
That should hopefully take care of all the problems in obtaining a new Gas connections.
Cheers!
(please write in to confirm if it works for the sake of others!)
