A drive on BMIC Road

While returning to city on Mysore Road on Sunday evening, we noticed a board pointing to a deviation to Kanakapura road on the BMIC road. It would save us many kilometers of drive, and we decided to take it.

The approach to the road is cumbersome since the people at our PWD did not think it is worth providing a right turn to this road from Mysore road. We had to take a U-turn after driving a little ahead. But once you are on the road, it is a smooth ride. The roads are empty on either side, at least as of now and it is free of potholes and road-humps. But there is still some construction activity and the traffic is not regulated, which does not let you zoom at three-figure speeds safely. The road has 2 lanes in each direction and has a third reserve lane is many places. We were looking for a tollbooth on the road, but there is none yet.

We drove slowly, looking around, and noticed some layouts and construction work already happening around the road! Part of the road goes through forested area, primarily comprising Eucalyptus. We covered the stretch in around 15 minutes though we were slow. All the traffic that we encountered on the stretch included just about 3-4 trucks and an equal number of cars. The road begins near Kengeri and leaves us off around 6-8kms away from Banashankari temple on Kanakapura road. And it did cut off more than 30 minutes of driving for us on the way home. It is a very useful shortcut from Kanakapura road to Mysore road, and once ready, between Hosur road and Mysore road.

Wow, looks promising! From where did you return to the city. Would they make this highway all the way from Bangalore to Mysore via Kanakapura? Driving to the Shimsa would be a dream then… BTW, it is an NH.
