wading through water and traffic
On Saturday it rained for about an hour – a brisk downpour, no major storm. But if you had stepped out on the roads a little after the rains, as I had the misfortune to do, you might have wondered if the rains had been lashing out for days continuously. Water logging in the middle of the roads, traffic blocks, fallen trees, chaotic traffic due to people delayed by the rain rushing to get back home. It took me 25 minutes to cross a stretch on 1.5 km from the Hosur road cemetery to MICO factory – simply because no one wanted to allow on coming traffic to pass, traffic from the cross roads was blocking main road traffic as they wanted to squeeze in and move on and at some points one saw vehicles facing in all directions – traffic bound on all directions converged and no one willing to let the other move on! All this in the middle of the road as the edges were brimming with water. And since we always know how to make a bad situation worse, there was ceaseless honking from impatient motorists. The only traffic policeman available was conscientiously discharging his job at his appointed place near MICO factory while all hell had broken loose just a few metres away. The word “chaos” is inadequate to describe the scene one witnessed. I think my nerves grew 10% weaker just in those 25 minutes and I may have become 10% deafer.
There is a nice article on the condition of Traffic in India/ Bangalore written by a Dutchman who spent 2 years in Bangalore. You can read it in my personal blog here
Rains in Bangalore are beautiful, provided you stay inside your house and watch them through your window and do not have to step out for a day thereafter.
Hmmm…
