The King of Fruits

mangoes.jpg

Every summer, they make an appearance. Lunches are usually followed by a feasting on them mangoes. While Raspuri is my favourite, a majority of people usually prefer the Badami. At the high end, the Alphonso rules the roost. Others I can recall are the Tothapuri, Malgova etc.

Pic taken during my last visit to Bangalore. Prices per kg seemed high which indicates that the season has not really caught on, this year. Bala ( in the pic ) seemed concerned as well, as the low offtake affected his daily earnings and cashflow. I could only sympathise with him. He brightened up when he saw his pic!

I’m hoping to be again in Bangalore next week (before my final shift) as well, in time for the annual Mango Mela in Lalbagh Botanical Gardens. Also, hope to visit the Yeshwantpur market for more photo ops!

Cheers!

:)

Mango is a personal favourite and love to read about the fruit. NY Times has an article on it also today and mumbai metblogs has linked to it.

In Bangalore, the prices definitely are higher(what is’nt ?!) compared to last year. I do hope that the rain does not jack up the prices further. Looking fwd to more snaps from your market visits :-)

Mangoes are my personal favourite too. Any mango does it for me. And JUST because of the fruit, I have always loved summer.:-)
Looking forward to more pictures from you.

Haven’t had any mangoes yet this season, should check out the indian areas coming weekend to see if I can get hold of some. What variety is it, the large ones at the fruit sellers end?
