STONED…
Dont know how many of you actually witnessed the horror that struck the city with such force in last 2 days. this poor soul, however, managed to escape ONE by a whisker. it was in the late afternoon at the cofee-board of indian inst of science, where we were sipping out the java-beans as the sun was moving west. i came to visit my friends in the inst and got stuck there for the whole day as the situation outside became extremely volatile and was impossible to move out. suddenly, there were huge noises and before we could find the source of it, we were hit by a few stones. one just brushed past my head as i saw a mob outside screaming out loud in kannad abusing the crowd inside the campus. we somehow managed to take shelter behind the stall as the mob turned fiercely hostile. i was wondering what on earth could instigate somebody to attack institutes, offices, shops that had nothing to do with the death of the beloved son? i laughed inside – why to blame the foreign terrorists who tried to dent the place in recent past, when there are unseen enemies within? they painted their faces, draped themselves in state flags, chanted Dr rajkumar’s name, cheered ‘jay karnataka’ and pelted stones with no remorse!! long live them.. but it was not to be the end as it turned out in next few mins. A police officer apprehended the mob casually. to our utter shock the mob started bashing up the guy ruthlessly… one guy snatched the bike from him, broke the petrol tank and asked for a match-box. others ran to a safer distance as the game-show began. and a few seconds later, there was a deafening sound…
i am not sure if it was a resentment to the ‘outsiders’, but then what the anger was FOR? i am still clueless…
It is true that some local foreigners have been taken by surprise by seeing this in a city like Bangalore. And for them, who do not actually know anything about RajKumar, they will have negative views about Rajkumar now. But just to clear up some air, all those who resorted to arson were Rajkumar’s fans in the least.
Mobs and riots are not new to India. And the only possible cure for this disease is to eradicate illitracy. But as long as corrupt politicians exist, they will always want the majority of the citizens to be illetrate, so that they can lure them into political battles and also since they are easily lured when some politician speaks of the good of the farmer/poor. What they do not realise is that they are in no way benefitting from them by their false promises.
As was expected, the karnataka politicians have now started battling it out against the present governement for mis-handling the situation. SO we can very well guess that this was no unplanned incident, instead was a cunning plan of the opposition parties to encourage mobs and arson on the streets so that they can later blame the government and bring it down.
It is a sad world of politics and i do not see the situation improving unless some of the educated individauls like those who have posted comments on this thread and more outside do not stand up to save their country from a certain death!
The REVOLUTION is Coming. Can you see it.
If you think that educated individuals must enter politics and steer this country away from doom, please visit http://www.lokparitran.org/ and support our cause.
Utter nonsense. Obviously this is a case of instigated violence. The CM has said that he is aware of who was responsible for instigating violence and that he does not want to disclose in the public. Why? What will happen if the names are not disclosed? Will he lose face? Looks like it. Else why will he want to save face? I was talking with a friend on the day Dr. Rajkumar passed away and told him that once this is all over, the opposition is going to blame the government for the way all of it was handled. Isn’t it becoming a classic trait of Indian politics anywhere in the country? A train derails because of one signalman’s carelessness and the railway minister has to resign. Pakistan attacks India’s northern frontier, the government is pulled down. Do those who put the blame even stop to think if they would have been able to change the situation anyhow? Police force’s inability to tackle the situation should not be blamed on the Government. How can the government be responsible for inability of the people staffed in the police force? Infact, to tackle such unruly crowds, Government could have done a little more by ordering shooting of pellets and if necessary, bullets. They should have clamped curfew over the city. Only that could have helped!
Sreenath,
I think there are better forum and places to promote your political party.
Yes, I second Ferrari’s opinion. I see shades of a ‘ cut & paste’ job….
Amit, the mob was basically trying to find cops to beat up. And IISC has been crawling with cops since the terrorist attack there. In sum, you were caught in the line of “fire” from the mob to the cops.
Also, (I assume you don’t know Kannada) how did you figure out they were abusing the people inside?
BTW, its “Kannada”, not “Kannad”.
hey Ambar,
is it difficult to pick up the ‘abuse’ from body language even if you do not know the language. Moreover, the fact is that i understand ‘kannada’. anyway, thanks for your comment.
Amit,
You obviously dont know what you’re talking about. I conclude so,because you dont even know that the language is called ‘Kannada’ and not ‘Kannad’ as the North Indians settled in Bangalore prefer to call it.
Traveling in Bangalore ? Beware you can get beaten and pick pocketed if
you do not know kanadda
I was beaten badly and pick pocketed by kanadda activists on Sunday
16-04-2006 at bangalore
On Sunday 16-04-2006 , I was traveling by bus on outer ring road
I was about to get down from bus
I asked one guy to move a little so that I can come near to the gate.
suddenly one guy pushed me for no obvious reason and started
shouting in kanara
I just asked him what had happened , in the mean time another kanadda
guy joined and started shouting at me asking me to go back from
wherever I have come from
They started kicking me and fisting me , I somehow got down at the bus
station , I was hurted badly , when I put my hand in pocket , I saw my
purse was missing
I remember clearly that the purse was there with me when I was about to
get down from bus
So kanadda activists have started a new way of looting harmless people
My humble request to prime minister of india / chief minister of
karnataka is
When some one spits on the railway station , you have declared 200/-
fine, however
when some one is spreading hatred/communalism WHY THERE IS NO
PUNISHMENT ???
EITHER MAKE SOME LAW TO THROW OUT ALL NON-KANADDA PEOPLE FROM
BANGALORE, ELSE PUNISH PEOPLE SEVERLY FOR SPREADING HATRED AND
COMMUNALISM
EVEN IF 1% PEOPLE OF BANGALORE ARE TORTURED BY KANADDA ACTIVIST, THIS
CAN CREATE SIGNIFICANT DISTURBANCE TO DESTABILIZE WHOLE OF BANGALORE
BETTER THING WOULD BE MAKE A NEW COUNTRY OUT OF KARNATAKA, OF COURSE
YOU WILL NOT GET COALS/IRONS FROM OTHER STATES OF INDIA BUT YOU CAN
SURVIVE ON YOUR OWN
Why dont non Kannada speaking, elite like non state citizens better try to speak or atleast learn functional kannada instead of delving on injury caused?
