Go and Watch " The Wedding Album"

I guess I conducted my first two “celebrity” interviews….first, Lillette Dubey and then, yesterday evening, Girish Karnad .

Both of them are very articulate people, and having organized my questions well, I got quite a lot of info about them, and wrote a curtain-raiser to go with this “reminder” post for Metblogs, to follow up for the earlier announcement of Girish Karnad’s new play, which is being staged today and tomorrow.

You can see the curtain raiser….

with my photograph of Girish, too.

Here’s another one I took of him yesterday:

This photo comes with its own funny anecdote. For the first photograph, he didn’t smile, so I said, “Just think of ‘The Wedding Album’ and smile!” At this, he looked very startled and asked, “Have you already seen the play?” “No, I said,”why?” “That’s the first line of the play!” he exclaimed. “It’s ‘Think of the wedding and smile a little!’ ”

So do go and watch the play, which promises to be intriguingly interesting! It’s at 7.30 pm both days, at Chowdiah Memorial Hall.

In Flesh & Blood – A memory of actor Raghuvaran

Some of them may ask what the fuss is about. It’s no big deal really. But for those of us who get a little excited when we see TV or Film personalities in flesh & blood, this may make sense. For most of us the TV or the Film world means a different world altogether. It communicates glamour, money, fame, popularity & power. Our TV shows & films create a dream and we lap it all up. I suppose the impact that they have on our habits, our looks and our dreams is enormous. Now what happens when you see such people in person, in flesh & blood? Most times you are in awe. You pause. Give a second look. Stare and then you move on having that memory registered forever. Below is one instance of seeing an actor in flesh & blood right here in Bangalore

It involves Raghuvaran. Raghuvaran is a popular actor who has acted mostly in South Indian films. He plays the doctor who saves Sivaji in the movie Sivaji starring Rajnikanth. This incident happened on Brigade Road. The swanky car was driven by a chauffeur & Raghuvaran was seated backseat & was smoking. I was directly behind the car riding my bike. There was no give away of course that it was him. Just a nice car in front, that is all. But check out the drama that followed. This swanky new car crosses the traffic signal at the Mota Royal Arcade junction & proceeds straight towards sulay circle. Here this swanky car brushes the car in front. So you know what happens in situations like this. Out hops the driver, ready for a duel & collect the damages. The swanky car driver talks/shouts to the affected car’s driver. No resolution in sight. And this is where Raghuvaran steps out from the back seat. He walks to the front & confronts the affected car’s driver. The only thing Raghuvaran does on getting face to face with the affected car’s driver is to raise his hands & point all his fingers towards himself & shake his head as if saying, “Its me. Do you recognize?” He repeats the action once again, when he doesn’t see any reaction. The affected car’s driver recognizes Raghuvaran & smiles. He shakes his head & smiles some more. His intention to duel completely disappears. Raghuvaran shakes hands with the affected car’s driver & walks back to his seat puffing his cigarette.

I have shared this incident with a lot of people. It just goes to show the love & admiration we have for people in the TV or film world. It is anybody’s guess how that argument would have proceeded had it been someone else.

It is sad to know that Raghuvaran is no more amongst us today.

President of India in town

…wasting everyone’s time who is trying to get to work and do something useful. While she spent another day spending tax payer’s money cutting ribbons and giving uninspiring speeches/talks.
What surprises me most is that, these people (read presidents of India) never had anything to say about what they feel about wasting people’s time, spending tax payer’s money on useless things and wasting precious energy (using dozens of cars).
At the end of this blog, I am wondering whether these presidents of India even worth this blog.

(Edited the post little bit, because it seems I ought to show some respect, even though millions of Indians get insulted everyday because of their lack of wisdom)

Bangalore Nagarathnamma

Traditionally in the south, people were known by the name of their native village or town. I don’t think there are too many people known that way from Bangalore.

One exception is the great artist Nagarathnamma. who was a musician and dancer from the Devadasi tradition, who was well known in the early 20th century. Though originally from Mysore, she established herself from Bangalore in 1890’s and so became known as Bangalore Nagarathnamma. She was apparently the first artiste to pay income tax!

Getting a Wider Angle !!

Being a photographer I crave to see some great photo’s and with Anita’s invite for Wide Angle 2007, I was glad to be there on Saturday morning…

– Looking at the world beyond the frame

Photography can be a means of capturing special moments, fascinating places, interesting objects or even captivating faces. But beyond that, there’s also another dimension to a photograph. When delving deeper into the pixels, it triggers thoughts and expressions that go much beyond the frame.
We bring you – Wide Angle 2007 – a set of thoughtfully selected frames that attempt to capture moments of time that we hope will make you pause a while, think, or maybe even bring out a hidden memory. We would like to take you on a pictorial journey of discovery – spanning different moments we have captured along our lives and travels. We do hope that, after this experience, you will approach the beautiful world around with a different perspective and with a wider angle!! says the Invite..

New State Governor, Mr.Rameshwar Thakur.

The new Governor for Karnataka is Mr. Rameshwar Thakur, he is shifting him from Orissa. Mr. Thakur has been appointed as Karnataka Governor for the remainder of his term, succeeding T N Chaturvedi, whose term of office expired recently.

Thakur, a native of Bihar and a former Union minister, is expected to play a vital role in the State as the chasm between the ruling JD(S) and BJP had widened on the question of transfer of power on October 3. He being a shrewd politician and a veteran leader, has occupied various important and prestigious positions from time to time, including Director of Unit Trust of India, Director of Export Credit and Guarantee Corporation, Director of Punjab National Bank and Director of Punjab, Haryana and Delhi Chambers of Commerce.

Compilation from various sources.

Guilty until proved otherwise!!

Western Governments have turned around the cardinal principal of criminal law, Instead of ‘Innocent until proved Guilty’ it has now become ‘Guilty until proved otherwise’.

Like a celebrity, he is welcomed back home at Bangalore Airport; his wife goes on media saying sweets are being prepared and he likes sweets…Mohamed Haneef was reunited with his wife and newborn daughter in his hometown Bangalore after spending 25 days in Australian jail on a charge of supporting last month’s failed attacks on London and Glasgow, Scotland.
