Hello everyone!
Well, this is my pilot post and when I tried to force myself to write, I couldn’t think of anything. I had a million ideas swarming in my head, but nothing made sense. Then I read this post by Rubic Cube.

http://bangalore.metblogs.com/archives/2006/03/a_coffee_that_you_can_munch_on.phtml

Being a hardcore Bangalorean and being in college in the 90s, it’s really hard for me to fathom the new Bangalore. I dislike Coffee Day, Barista et. al. The SLV opposite BMS Engineering College was our adda and the coffee there is mindblowing…traditional and authentic, purely South Indian! Handed to you hot in a small steel tumbler with a thin layer of frothy milk on top…skipping our first class and sipping that at 7:30 a.m. was heaven. Adiga’s adjacent to DVG road, MTR in Lalbagh, Vidhyarthi Bhavan in Gandhi Bazaar, Brahmin’s Cafe in Chamarajpet all have awesome coffee. Yes! As you might have already guessed, I’m South Bagalorean and I love this part of the city. The simplicity of this side of the city cannot be described…it has to be experienced.

Dolce Latte, Cappuccino, Macchiato, Caffè Americano, Espresso, Mocha, Caffé Misto, Caramel Frappuccino…huh? At the risk of being called a hyprocrite, I’m gonna let you in on a secret! I stop at Starbucks EVERYDAY for a Grande Skim Extra Hot Latte. They recognize me, I get many free coffees and I’m addicted to their intense and earthy Sumatra Espresso blended with steamed milk! But it’s more out of necessity than love. I would give up a million cups of Starbucks anyday for one sip of my authentic Bangalore coffee. :-)

Call me old fashioned, but the rate at which Bangalore is westernizing is alarming. I’ve been away from Bangalore for 6 years now and when I come home once a year, I don’t find much difference between D.C. and Bangalore except the traffic and the pollution.

I know I have poked a very controversial and debatable topic and I will definitely come back to this in my next post. In fact, several of my future posts will be devoted to comparing the Bangalore I loved and grew up in, to the Bangalore it has become today. See ya’ll again soon!
