Its a long weekend and you havent planned anything yet? Dont worry lets plan the weekend for you. Lets plan now.How about Angasana Resort at doddaballapur with your family. You want to see some historical place around bangalore Srirangapattana and Mysore could be a good drive for you. If you want a serene place for a picnic they why not Markonahalli dam?. Well you might want to visit some temple along with enjoying natural beauty then there is Kukke subrahmanya or kumara parvata or somanathapura. Heavy rains make Shivana Samudra more beautiful and you can easily drive. The hill station coorg might be a good option if you want to spend more than three days.If you are very new to Bangalore; you want to loaf around then why not try the new open top buses?

No you are too lazy and want something within city – If you are an avid movie watcher then don’t miss Helmut Käutner at MMB this weekend.You might be interested in watching plays for a change; How about Othello this weekend at Rangashankara? Meet few interesting guys who share the same passion for Green Bangalore this weekend at Cubbon Park. If you are planning to watch Othello; I will be there tomorrow.

Bands of Bangalore: Phenom

Phenom is Bangalore’s own rock group which started as a college band at PESIT. It was in 1998 when four guys came together to start a western music band called Phenom. It was Sriram, Adithya, Tarun ,George who laid the foundation stones of Phenom. Till 2000 the PESIT music band performed at various college fests. It was in 2002 they shed the “college band” title and started participating in various competitions. They were a big hit at LinuxBangalore/2002 amongst the techies performing Linux Can.

They were one of the first Indian bands to give their music under Creative Commons. You can download their album Unbound!.

Sweets at Adyar Anand Bhavan

You want to taste yummy sweets in Jayanagar area. Its Anand Bhavan sweets. You get variety of sweets including my favorite fruit halva. There are variety of Indian sweets which catches your eyes as soon as you enter.
They have lovely Cham Cham, Paneer Jamoon, Badam Bhog, Malaika besides popular Bengali sweets, Diamond Cake, Kajod Distorole, Kesar Bhodhi and what not. They also serve different kinds of Khara, chips etc.They serve good south Indian breakfast.

Next time when you want to fill petrol on silkboard to banashankari ring road goes to SM Krishna petrol bunk. Because that’s where Anand Bhavan sweets is! The place is also called Udupi Garden restaurant bus stop.

The cost is average and they accept credit/debit cards. The place is not good for having a personal chat. It’s crowded all the time. So it’s good to get the food packed and have it in the car once your car is full with petrol!

They have branches at Malleshwaram,Majestic, Gandhi Bazar, Indiranagar and Ganganagar etc. But I have seen only at BTM. Its their new branch.Last time I heard them in news was when they released sweets for diabetics ( sweet news).

One day away from TV

Ranga Kishora is playing a childrens play “Kathegala Kanaja” is an interwoven story of a queen, who is addicted to watching the television.Its been played at Rangashankara.And tomorrow (13) is the last day.Its a great evening to spend with your kids. The story line goes like this

On one such occasion while she is getting bored of the television, she looks out of her window to find an old woman narrating a story to a few children. The TV queen expresses he interest in hearing the story and asks her servant to get some stories for her. The servant does not know where to get the stories, hence follows the old woman who leaves her home at midnight. The old woman leads the servant to a secret place where grandparents share their stories. The servant manages to come back to the queen with only incomplete stories. The queen loves the incomplete story and sends her servant back to get the complete story. Unfortunately, the servant is unable to do so since she has no access to the secret place. This angers the queen who in turn orders for a war against stories. What happens next ??

Film on Bangalore Police and LTTE – Cyanide

Kannada movie called Cyanide is making news. The movie is based on Shivarasan and Shubha who were behind the assassination of former PM Rajiv Gandhi on May 21, 1991. The film is about the incidents that happened between Aug 1 and 20 in 1991. The story ends with Shivarasan and Shuba ending their lives with Cyanide.

According to the reviews the story is realistic and humane. The movie also speaks about the role of Bangalore police in finding them. So you can see Kemapiah (played by Avinash) on screen.The cast includes Ravi Kale as Shivarasan ,Malavika (do you watch Muktha?), Tara National award winner; in main roles. The movie is directed by Ramesh.

It’s been a decade since a decent debut at Lords. The Great Wall of India is still standing strong and tall.Rahul Dravid proud Bangalorean debuted today ten years back with a decent score of 95. The path has been very difficult for him.But his sheer talent, dedication and hard work have taken him to all places. Today he has the highest average for any Indian player out side India.Speaking about his debut at cricinfo

There are many innings which I enjoy. One of them is his double century against Australia in Australia.Its a pleasure to watch him.

As all of you know Lokayukta. Justice N Venkatachala’s term is ending. Venkatachala has done a great work until now. I think its good for the people of Karnataka ( as well Bangalore) for him to continue in the same post. There are discussions going on to give Lokayukta more power too.
Karnataka state human rights council is collecting public opinion about Venkatachala. They are going to submit the same to CM.

Radio Mirchi – Please stop speaking Kanglish

Dear RJs of Radio Mirchi,

None of you seem to know Kannada and try to speak Kannada on air. I appreciate that.But I feel all of you need few lessons in Kannada. First grade kid speaks better Kannada than most of you. The language Kanglish (Chowchow bath of 30% Kannada and 70% English) you are trying to promote; doesn’t make any sense to anybody. Neither the Kannadigas nor others understand what you speak on air. Please let me know if you need some lessons on basic Kannada.
It is really irritating to hear something like “nimma … sms madi mattu prize win madi” on air. I wonder what happens to the vocabulary of the kid who listens to radio mirchi. He needs a new grammar class to make sense of it. My parents hate me tuning to radio mirchi. I wonder who is your target audience is? If you think its youth; I am sorry. I don’t listen to it any more .
What I need is either proper Kannada or proper English. In your own language ‘dayavittu simply English athava simply Kannada talk madi’. All the best.
