This year so far has been a very eventful year for the Indian IT Industry. Some of the remarkable achievements made by the IT bigwigs are

1. CTS reaches the billion dollar revenue mark in record time
2. Wipro makes it to the $2 billion club
3. IT bellweather Infosys celebrates its 25th year anniversary

This has led to increased returns for the investors and extra perks for the employees. While CTS has showered its employees with video ipods, message boards are buzzing with discussions about what is in store for the employees of the two bangalore based giants, Infosys and Wipro.

Let’s wait and watch.

Two years ago there was this article on rediff terming Bangalore as not the Silicon Valley but the Coolie Valley. It compares how the technology companies at Silicon Valley like HP, Intel, Apple, Adobe, Yahoo, Seagate, Symantec were churning out new technologies and products every year, while Indian companies were providing low end end-to-end solutions to the global firms.

Silicon Valley companies are based on ‘know what.’ They know the market, they know the technology and they know what products to make to earn money.
Coolie valley companies are based on ‘know how.’ They do the software coding for other companies that have the ‘know what.’ If you tell them what to do, they know how and will do it for you.

But in the past two years, things have changed a lot. Recently there was this article on Nytimes about how Bangalore is the hot destination for technology startups. Venture Capitalists are looking at Bangalore based startups for promising investments.

Of course not all startups turn out to be successful. Some product or technology companies that have stayed in the market and established themselves are Sasken, which has developed communication products, Tally the maker of the popular accounting software and now planning to foray into the ERP product space also, Mindtree, which has started making money by licensing its patented communication technology.

The NYtimes author concludes by saying that though Bangalore can never be compared with silicon valley in the near future, it can match up with Boston or Austin as a competitive place to start up innovative product companies.

Thejesh had pointed out about youngsters being ignorant to the current state of Bangalore. Well as a small step towards contributing to the infrastructure development in the city, here’s my idea. The first thing that comes to my mind when I think about the degrading infrastructure in Bangalore is the roads. So I would recommend readers to comment to this post about the roads that they think need immediate attention.

Please submit your comments in the following format:
Road Name or some identification,
What are the import locations that it connects,
What is the current state of the road (totally unusable/wearing out each day. Try to picturize the state of the road),
How long has it been that way,
Some statistics about how many vehicles use that road or some pointers to show how important that road is (Please do some survey before you complain)

Also we have to make sure that these complaints reach the authorities concerned at the highest levels. So anybody who has any contacts or ideas for forwarding the complaints, post it as a comment or please mail it to the id Bangalore.gardencity@gmail.com.

The metrobloggers of New Orleans, Lahore and Karachi had played a vital role during Hurricane Katrina and the earth quake in Pakistan. Hope that the Bangalore metroblog also will also evolve as a platform for people to contribute towards the development of Bangalore.

Cheers,
Agent Pal
