This is a first. Probably the first ever in Indian politics. Lets look at the sentence There is a non-zero probability closely.

1. The sentence has perfect grammar. Ever heard perfect grammar from a politician? Maybe from someone higher up the food chain, but surely not at the grass roots level. Definitely not the ones who interact directly with the people.

2. The knowledge of probability. That too, non zero probability. Another first for a politician.

Those are the words of Tanmay Rajpurohit when he was asked about their chances of winning. Remember this name. Alongwith Santhanagopalan Vasudev, P. Elanthirumaran, Ishrayel Maheswar, Prasahant Sharma, Arvind Tiruvaiyar, Rajamani, Hariharan, Rabindra Ganesh, who are contesting in Tamil Nadu for 12 seats. They are all from the Lok Paritran party.

Lok Paritran hasn’t promised free education, free lands, free power, free booze, free colour TVs. They have only one thing to offer.

“If only 40 percent of people vote and if 38 to 40 percent of those votes go to the winning candidate, it means that the chosen candidates has got votes from only 15 percent of the total population. How is this democracy?”

“To promote democracy, more people have to vote. If they don’t find an alternative, they don’t go to vote. The people who do not vote are our bank.”

Bulls-eye. And we are that walking talking bank. Hopefully, the people of TN don’t behave like SBI and go on strike or something. Read more about them here and here.

First of all, this has to be said – ‘cmon bangalore. show some taste.’ Two reasons why I am saying this – V for Vendetta has released in Bangalore. Not in Chennai. Where it has a huge fan-base for the Wachowskis. I couldn’t get tickets during the entire first week of the release of Matrix Reloaded. I remember waiting with a huge crowd to watch the zero hour worldwide release of Matrix Revolutions. And I did catch it with a full Satyam theater. Unlike PVR Cinemas yesterday which had barely any people. Reason two – the movie is fun.

Suprisingly, the movie reminded me of Fight Club. Though, there isn’t much common to both – on paper or plot. Both movies ended with bombing. Freestyle ‘terrorism’. Good dialogue. The only difference – Fight Club was unapologetic while V is talkative. It needs its reasons. Spare the philosophical talk which goes over the top sometimes, add a little more subtlety to the performances and the movie could have been much greater than the sum of its parts.

It was a little disconcerting to see PVR not even half full for the show. Though this was on a Monday, I am sure when that movie comes out it’ll be packed. Every Monday.
