Moved from Bombay to Bangalore in search of the quiet life a few years ago. Found it and a great deal more! Of course, life in Bangalore is no longer very quiet, but the fact remains that one can still have a life in the city, unlike the mega metropolis where I spent much of my time in local trains or waiting for them. Love Bangalore and everything about it, except the evil auto people and the horrendous traffic! The extensive tree-cutting fills me with despair and frustration at what we're doing to our city. Will it be too late I wonder when we all one day wake up and realise at the destruction of our green lungs and spaces? This is one place where you actually have the most beautiful tree-lined shaded roads - but they all seem to be disappearing under the axe of the road widening authorities. I am so glad for people like Janet (http://www.treesforfree.org). But as they say... c'est la vie - I try and look at the brighter side of life. Maybe there's some greater picture that I'm missing and I'll live in that hope!
