Moved from Bombay to Bangalore in search of the quiet life a few years ago. Found it and a great deal more! Of course, life in Bangalore is no longer very quiet, but the fact remains that one can still have a life in the city, unlike the mega metropolis where I spent much of my time in local trains or waiting for them! Love Bangalore and everything about it, except the evil auto people and the horrendous traffic! The extensive tree-cutting fills me with despair and frustration at what we're doing to our city. This is one place where you actually have the most beautiful tree-lined shaded roads - but they all seem to be disappearing under the axe of the road widening authorities. I am so glad for people like Janet (www.treesforfree.org). But as they say... c'est la vie - I try and look at the brighter side of life and of Bangalore. And there's still a lot to cheer about.
