  • Fruits for ALL!!!!

Figs, pomogranates and mangoes being sold on Commercial street, Bangalore. June 2009 Pic: By Author

Off late Bangalore has seen a steep rise in exotic fruit sales by street vendors. Fruits like strawberries, figs, peaches, lychees and plums which were considered exotic and expensive at one time can now be seen sold alongside unripe ‘totapuri’ mangoes, cucumbers and guavas smeared with salt and chilli powder at every other street corner.

This in a way is symbolic of the progress that Bangalore has made over the last decade making its presence felt on the world map.

    Corporates seeking out bloggers

    dsc01815

I now see a new and encouraging trend in a company’s efforts to be visible in the marketplace. And I’m not talking about press, outdoor, film or television. The new recipe has carefully hand-picked ingredients that can even get a steak to sizzle : bloggers. Bloggers, specially invited to a freewheeling session that is informal, interactive and informative.

I was recently invited to a product curtain raiser for bloggers and my invite gave me a sneak preview of two new Lenovo products. The new IdeaCentre A600 and IdeaPad Y650 – just off the blocks from the Lenovo launch pad. After the presentations were concluded, the bloggers were invited to test drive the two machines and interact with the Lenovo team on features, specs, support and compatibility with typical user profiles.

One of difficult things about a bloggers’ meet with a corporate agenda is the actual handling of the event – especially in terms of presentation logic. It can’t be orchestrated, or formal. It can’t be to a script. And it can’t be blow-dried. So, it has to be open-ended, freewheeling and meandering – with no timers set on presentations and discussions. And that is exactly what this bloggers’ meet was all about.

The “Team Asha Team 8K, 2009″ is a running event organized by Team Asha. The primary objective of this event is to create awareness about Asha’s efforts and kick start our Team Asha “Training” programs. The team of runners who run marathons, half marathons, 10Kms or even ultra marathons constitute ‘Team Asha’ and we fund raise to support Asha’s efforts.

    Run details
    Location: Valley school, Bangalore.
    Date: 20th June, Saturday
    Time: 7:30 A.M

    Terrain and location
The entire route is scenic with lush greenery and beautiful streams lacing the landscape of Valley school. The terrain will be a mix of road, soft trail and even stretches of rugged rock trails with some steep uphills. Beginners or first timers are advised to walk the uphills cautiously.

    Who can run?
Anyone above the age of 10 can participate in the run. We will have children from multiple Asha supported efforts running along with us on June 20th.

    Prizes
The event’s objective is to go beyond the usual ‘need for speed’ and make this a wholesome event. The event is about bringing together adults and children from varying backgrounds with running as a unifying factor. Prizes would be awarded for different aspects of running together rather than just speed. There will be interesting categories for prizes and every participant will get a T-shirt as memorabilia.

    Registration
Please do register online by clicking here -

    http://www.ashanet.org/bangalore/teamasha8k/register.html

A nominal registration fee of Rs.150 would be collected at the venue to cover the cost. We would strive to organize this event at the minimum cost and impact to the environment. If there are any proceeds from the event, it will directly go to Asha Bangalore’s efforts.
