Pass that ‘Underpass’…

Underpass at Cauvery junction is finally ready, I see the BBMP folks getting out of the stress for planning, execution and most importantly Public relations abode. 3 days to 33 days, a symbolic situation which has raised many questions on capabilities, competence and completion of govt initiatives.

No, I don’t want to start over blame game as the topic is chewed off so much already, but the question is what have we as a system have learnt from this episode(pardon my unified expectations). Few questions at large…

Will we ever plan our public utilities and infrastructure better?

Will the Govt. Machinery ever use professional approach, structured planning methods and enhance communication by and between departments?

Will citizens continue to bear the escalated costs and fiscal burdens for the inefficiencies and ill-accountability within govt departments and scholar bureaucrats finally?

Will people vote for ‘citizen satisfaction’ as a parameter in elections for political parties?

For a second I was wondering whether this is bangalore metblogs or slimes of india!

It took 33 days, but still isn’t it something good? Instead of blaming the officials, should we not appreciate them? Its so easy to sit back and blame the BBMP for anything and everything.

In Hyderabad a flyover contruction was handed over to a professional organization. What happened there?

There was no government involved. Is this question ‘Will people vote for ‘citizen satisfaction’ as a parameter in elections for political parties?’ relevant here?

I don’t think people who live in that area feel so bad about it, like you do Rajesh :)

@Archana, the Cauvery junction is on T. Chowdaiah Road.

@Just some immigrant, Slimes and criticism is part of life, question is if someone is learning from it. I understand the experiment from BBMP claiming they can do this work in 3 days and it took 33. That’s the problem. Now it seems we have started accepting this with ‘sympathetic ‘ approach of ‘Der hai par Andher nahin’ Why?
No one had asked BBMP to boast that they can do it in 3 days, now that they have not, why sympathy? Are they not paid for their job out of public money? The exposure has indeed caused shame and confirmed the fact that BBMP does need serious review on the process and planning part.

I sincerely appreciate the help done by those egg students at site to help speed up the work, this help was not for BBMP but in the interest of public to avoid further delay… if at all BBMP would have called for help in planning and strategizing too, we have ample masterminds in this city who will come for help and ‘educate’ governance and execution professionally as well.

Vijaynagar Chord Road / Magadi road underpass is under construction from past 3 years and the media is not focussing on it whereas media is giving full prominence to this junction and questioning various things. People are just adding to it.

Appreciate the fact that they have completed in a month not 3 years without giving up half way saying it is not possible.

Ofcourse, there will be hiccups in all infrastructure projects and unforeseen things will be encountered. It is not like an IT project .

Hey – credit where its due!

I’m actually very optimistic now that the BBMP has done this in 33 days – what else ever has got done this quick ? So they screwed up on the PR part a bit and made claims (probably based on what whoever supplied those "magic boxes" told them)

If this is a new benchmark, then Bangalore is ready to take on growth!

I pretty well know where cauvery junction is, thank you for reiterating it! I was asking where the underpass is located exactly in the junction..

The underpass is ready now. BBMP underestimated the time and the constraints. But should appreciate the work they did in such a short span of time

I also feel that we should appreciate BBMP’s efforts to finish the work without running into corruption and enquiries. Nowadays, In India no infrastructure project finishes in one month. This was the first 3-day underpass they undertook. Now they realize the obstacles they might face.
Usually media doesnt give equal importance to all projects. They only see where they can get some mileage. They are like that.
