Ask Laila: The Who, What, When, Where of Bangalore!

Whether it’s dining out, entertainment or essential services in Bangalore, wouldn’t it be nice to find all this information under one roof? Well, there are a few attempts in terms of listing of Bangalore related info, but nothing definitive just yet. Often I’ve looked for information on Bangalore online, but rarely have I found it in one site or source.

Asklaila.com attempts to fill this gap. It is positioned as one-stop shop for information on Bangalore under the following categories: Wine and Dine, Events , Lifestyle , Local Services & Shopping. Of course, it’s not limited to these, but used as a bucket for the information.

And why the needs for this kind of a service? In the words of the folks behind Asklaila.com: “The Net, we felt, ought to provide you the answers question like: Where to get the best Chinese food in town; What the number of nearest pub is; Who to call on a Sunday when the flush overflows; When things are happening; How to get to places etc.”

There is a search engine built into the site through which you can look for what you want. Apart from that, you can also ‘Suggest A Listing’. If this site can scale up quickly, it could well be the place for Bangalore’s junta to head for any related information!

It could well be any information. For example, if you had a query that goes like this:
Which Andhra restaurants in Indiranagar deliver food home?
Just type, ‘Andhra food home delivery’ in the search box and ‘Indiranagar’ in the area box to get a list of restaurants. Do give it a try!

We’ll keep following it and see how it goes. In case, you readers, have any valuable suggestions or inputs, I’m sure they’ll be more than happy to hear from you…

It is a good idea and very convenient and useful for end-users to have such information under one roof, like single-window services provided by govt departments which adopted e-governance.

Many daily newspapers, national and regional, provide a lot of info-updates everyday on flight services, rail and road connectivity, reservations/rates/phones, restos, conference and seminar halls, clinical and medicare services available including phone nos, stay facilities and daily events etc in their Listing Pages in city supplements and tabloids, perhaps the idea of bringing all this info under one roof, while good, may only result in duplicity of information. Spot info about delayed flights, trains, sudden bandhs which dislocate public life and inconvenience to commuters, such information may be morehelpful than calendar listings, I feel.

In addition, a number of TV channels, regional and local, dish out a lot of the above-cited information all through the day and through ads and scrolls. If flipping through newspapers is a burden, one can get info from TVs, net and even from mobiles too. Still the idea maybe worth a try. Besidesmany newspapers these days have become city-centric and people from interiors and far off places may not have facilities or sources to get info on Bng.

Well…though it’s a friend who is involved and has helped to create AL, I must say that when I entered “play” and “english”, all I got was a list of montessori and playschools in my area!!
