Bangalore Traffic updates

Have you checked the BTIS site? Its really a very useful site for people who are not familiar with all the roads in the city. Apart from providing information on the current traffic updates, the site also provides directions from one area to another along with a rough estimate on what the Auto fare could be?

I tried the directions for ‘Basavanagudi to MG Road’ and the route given was Basavanagudi-Bugle Rock-JC Road-Raja Ram Mohan Roy Road-Kasturba Road-MG Road. Distance is 6.8 kms.

Unfortunately the site does not take the one ways into consideration :( I tried the directions from MG Road to Basavanagudi, and it gave the exact reverse of the above scenario. But nevertheless it seems to be a useful website.

We’re working on digitizing the one-ways now, and should be done with that exercise within a week. The first month of the launch is a kind of BETA period for us. Your feedback (btis@btis.in) would be very helpful. We’ll gradually improve the SMS interface as well, after observing some of the typical mistakes people make in using the system.

    Hey Prabhu,
Was planning to write on the same topic :) Is it possible for you to take some stuff from Silicon India http://www.siliconindia.com/shownews/36071
and add it to the article?

    Thanks.

I checked out the site as well as SMS interface – pretty cool.

I am not sure of the source of live traffic info – in one place it says several sources and in another it says it is got from the logs of Airtel towers – in my opinion that would not be too reliable. With no traffic cameras in India, getting reliable traffic density info would be pretty tough indeed.

It does not give the approx time that would be required to complete the journet under live traffic conditions.

However great concept and extremely well executed!
