Auto-Messages
I have always enjoyed the messages on the backs of the Bangalore Autos. It is as if the auto drivers want to have their own fantasy about the vehicles they are driving. The vehicles are painted with messages, names of dear ones, some have a “Hi!” message on them, and there is such an enormous variety of artwork on them, too.
I decided to snap a few of the autos, without which we cannot live, and with which we sometimes cannot live!
Many autos carry advertisements all over, like this Aristocrat Premium Auto:
Note, also, the Kannada flag at the side.
I don’t know if the picture size will allow one to read the messages clearly…..they are written on the back of the autos, on the right nand side, near the tail light.
Some autos come with messages written at the back. Here is the Classice Auto:
Some have the year written at the back, like this “2006” model:
This one is from 2005; I liked it because it also has “Nisarga” (Nature) written across its back window:
Here’s one from 2004…this has, very intriguingly, “Devil” written across its rear window!
Some of them have abstract art across their rear windows, like this one:
Some identify their engines as well above an auto engine; here’s one that says, “1000 cc”!
That one also marks another very common feature..autos are identified with various makes of cars. The one above is marked as a Cielo.
Here’s a Volvo:
And to top it all, here’s nothing less than a Benz!
The number plate on this auto has also been specially bought; it’s 8888!
Here is another Benz on the road:
No, I never saw any Rolls-Royces yet on Bangalore roads…yet!
As you can see, I snapped all these while riding in an auto…and never thought to see what message, art or id that particular one was carrying!
So look around at the autos on Bangalore roads…instead of being sources of annoyance, they will be sources of entertainment!
You have not come across the ones which print rude messages???
i have read one which said Never trust a women and another like..Women are like snake or something..
Well, I hear that a new Rolls Royce car has been purchased by a Bangalore hotelier. If you want to see it, visit the Royal Orchid Hotel on Airport Road.
Good snaps.
The abstract one is not so abstract at all. I see a partiotic auto who has accomodated the colours of our National Flag and Karnataka Flag in the little space at the rear of the vehicle.
I have also come across a few autos who may be doing social service with messages such as “Free ride for pregnant women” who are on their way to the hospital.
I don’t know if they really do offer it, but the message is printed though.
Sorry about the typo. I meant “patriotic” in my comment.
That “aristocrat premium” fellow must be making loads and loads of money for that advertisement for the alcohol companies!
Madam, it is KARNATAKA flag and not KANNADA flag!
Here’s a blog that follows such art…
http://arart.blogspot.com/
>>Madam, it is KARNATAKA flag and not KANNADA flag!

Nice post, some of these auto guys are quite creative.
Reminds me of a song by Thermal and a Quarter called “Chainese Item”. The song starts with an audio clip at a Chainese stall / restaurant. The guy rattls very quickly, “Chilli chicken, chicken mancharee, gobi mancharee, chow mein, lo mein, Mrikan chopsoi, hakka noodal, veg noodal…Yuvverithing is thar sar, vatyuvant ?”
The auto painters probably ask their proud new auto owners, “Ceilo, Volvo, Benz, 500cc, 1000cc, 5000cc, all cars & all cc’s are thare sar, vatyuvant ?”
