Mixed Branding!
In Bangalore, one can see so much of “mixed branding”….here’s one example. The movie is a recent one, “Masti”…and it is being advertised by “Napoleon Courrier” (sic)….it doesn’t specify what that brand is, but the association with Napoleon Brandy is left to the viewer’s imagination, with the depiction of a bottle-like picture,; and it says the ad is for “movies which ignite the fire in you”, and is “brought to you” by “Tilaknagar Industries”….
Here’s a larger picture; you can see the movie poster, too;
In yet another example of mixed advertising, don’t miss the “Canon” motorcycle helmet at the right-hand side of the picture…the logo is perfect, and there is no copyright infringement as the product is very different! This is why we have Lexus water heaters, too!
Taken on Kempe Gowda Road, 8 May 07.
‘Mixed branding’? This is new. I was given to believe that this type of advtg. is called ‘surrogate advtg’, actually.
The logo that this company has is a direct lift off of the logo of a famous hotel on the Las Vegas strip!! I wonder what they’d have to say when they find out.

Can we ever get original!?

Surrogate advertising is something like advertising another brand for the main brand. It’s like Kingfisher Soda instead of the Kingfisher beer, because you can’t air beer ads
