Silk-Cotton Majesty

Our administration is all set to cut down ever more trees for the development of the city (read, real estate and roads for cars.) And they promise that they will plant saplings instead of the cut trees. But how long would it take for a sapling to come to this stature of majesty and beauty? Here’s just one tree in Lalbagh:

Silk cotton Tree, Lalbagh Apr 07

The person standing under the tree is six feet tall….I put him there for size reference!

We need a lot more saplings, and we do need to cut SOME trees…but let us try and cut them only if it is completely unavoidable.

There is the another silk-cotton much bigger and more magnificent than this one. You need to keep following the the LalBagh compound wall from the MTR entrance towards the next entrance (the one that meets the road from the vishweshvarapuram/bridge side) . It’s somewhere between the two entrances most prob. It was shown to us by Mr.Vijay Thiruvady who conducts the lalbagh walks.
