Late evening’s 11th Auto rule…

Just about 9 pm (an hour and half earlier), we were at the junction of brigade road (outside opera house) trying to hire an auto for Indira Nagar… the road was full of auto’s but most of them refused to come as if ‘Indira nagar’ relocates beyond Hosur, after sunset every evening!!

Few others asked anywhere from 70-90 rupees and once we protested started asking for 1 ½ fare … even when it was just 9.30pm.

With no RTO in sight, patiently we waited and kept asking one by one till the eleventh auto agreed with 10 rupees more than meter… we paid him Rs.38/- upon reaching home.

So next time ‘you’ are taken on ride by these autonomous creatures try till the 11th one. It might work!!

i paid so many times double fare. some autowaala’s will set a one and half meter, again on that they will take one and half rate. We need to beg for auto’s. some autowaaala’s will give a look as if we are begging for one rupee. They will ignore or they wont answer also.( as some people behave when begger asking for money).

No RTO would have come to your rescue at that hour, Rajesh. You did the right thing by the patient wait..eventually, one of them will prove more honest than the others!
BTW, let the Metro come. I’d like to see their attitude then!

90% of the Auto Drivers are cheats. They have a new trick now..
after you give them an hundred rupee note,They will claim u didnt give them a hundred rupee note bt a ten rupee note and then pull out a ten rupee note from somewhere, most of us fall for this thinking we wld have given a 10 rupee note…
    i fell for this once…

The auto-wallahs don’t think any end of themselves. At times they might ask for 1.5 times even as early as 8.30 PM. They do like to bully passengers, don’t they?

In Koramangla, there is this pre-paid auto desk where you can get autos to go anywhere at fair prices. We should have more such places in other popular destinations (MG Road).

While I agree with you, this reminds me of my aunt’s cook in Chennai, who was told that she could take Bus no.11 to go home. She arrived the next day, full of righteous anger, saying that the eleventh bus had taken her to some far-off place where she had to take an auto, and demanding that my aunt reimburse her! So when you said, “eleventh auto”…my mind went to this incident instantly.

    Deepa, that is good one.

    Dude
I don’t think anything really worked here! look again. 38 is nothing but 1.5 almost, just that you’ve paid it in the name of extra 10 bucks instead of extra 14 bucks.
38-10=28. so i gather 28 is the actual fare. .5 of 28 is 14 for which you’ve paid 10. so thats about it. business everywhere, nothing else!

    Janum,

I am sure 38 is far less than 70-90. You are good at Math, yes we agrred to pay Rs.10 more than meter.
