Ugadi at Ranga Shankara
Today, a few of us went to Ranga Shankara , to check out the Ugadi celebrations there.
Eight Kannada one-act plays, including ones like “Mysooru Mallige” , were being staged. When we went, we realized that we were not in time for the performance we had wanted to see…but still we managed to spend quite a lot of time there.
The theatre space wore a festive look with red Japanese lanterns, with flowers strung up everywhere.
Several Kannada theatre groups and theatre personalities were thronging the space in and around the auditorium, and the general informal atmosphere was very welcoming indeed. I went around saying hi to a couple of people, and though I had had an excellent lunch, couldn’t help checking out the traditional Kannada cuisine which Anju and her team had provided …and equally, we couldn’t help sampling the “paanakaa”, the “majjige”, “obbittu”, “vadaa” and so on….It was such fun sitting down and eating these delicacies while all around talk theatre talk ebbed and flowed.
Ranga Shankara is a real boon for people in South Bangalore who need not go too far to find good theatre now. Long may Arundhati’s dream last in reality!
