Jackfruits are here!
I was pleasantly surprised to find jackfruits in the first week of March! The pic shows the fruits that a man was selling on Sanjaynagar main road. His fruits were from Doddaballapura. Have any of you found it elsewhere in Bangalore already?
I do know that jackfruit is such a fruit that either you love it or you don’t like it much. I LOVE it. It is delicious. :)
These are some of the yummy dishes made from jackfruit:
* Jackfruit Pappad – Mangalore
* Jackfruit pudding – Kerala
* Jackfruit Jam – Kerala
* Jackfruit Chips – Kerala
I found this interesting trivia on Wikipedia – The English name jackfruit derives from Portuguese “jaca”, which is derived from Malayalam “chakka.”
one of my favorites!! y’day i has an interesting find.. a jack fruit icecream at namdhari’s…
Fresh jackfruits are truly yummy indeed. Looking forward to enjoying the “fresh” ones in Bangalore. During my extended stay in the US, it has always been “lousy tasting” canned jackfruit.
Some slightly unrelated trivia: Did you guys know that the classical instruments Veena and Mridangam are made from jackfruit trees.
Rajesh, jackfruit icecream, sounds interesting. I have never seen one.
Ramkumar, that is indeed news to me. I guess there’s something about the wood that makes it a good choice for musical instruments?
