Chutki’s Roses & Women’s day!!
The day was as normal for her, she sells ‘Roses’ just outside Barton center on MG Road, many times as she swiftly catches your attention and swings the rose, requesting you to buy one as you walk by…
It was 8th March , the special day not that special for her as she had to still sell few of the roses and it was almost past 8pm, she seem desperate to make the sell. For her and many alike, this ‘women’s day didn’t make any difference…taking life on their hand and not expecting any thing from society that seem not taking notice, life moves on…
I witnessed this contrast where on the same pavement of the road, I see many women marching / walking the night supporting Blank Noise, with a powerful statement to make this city safe for ‘Walk’ and on the other hand Chutki, completely unaware making a statement of self reliance …on both aspects I felt, were very important to get unnoticed, standing for oneself and being self-reliant!!
So, make sure when you walk by MG road next, buy yourself the ‘rose’ which will tell you that your have just supported the vigor, cause and spirit of an independence and self reliance!!
What an adorable little girl! nice post.
I happen to know Chutki and her sister for last 2 years. They have been selling roses on that pavement for a stretch of 50 metres, keeping erstwhile Barista in the middle of their stretch. It was admirable the way both sisters would come to one and request to buy a rose without pestering. It used to look like no pestering as they always used to have a smile on their face and appropriate words for the couple/single. I remember when I went with my wife on her birthday and she already had flowers in her hand. Chutki’s words were,’Sahib le lo na, memsahab ko accha lagega’.
For a long time I haven’t been to that stretch. Thanks Rajesh for reviving those memories.
