GoldenBellc.JPG

The color Bangalore is wearing now is golden yellow, the Tabebuia Argentina a.k.a. Golden Bell is on the full bloom. Many roads, gardens have these trees and are looking wonderful… one of these blooming beauties situated in Lalbagh is actually planted by former prime minister of India, Late Shri. Jawaharlal Nehru in 1953.

Tabebuia Argentina belongs to family “BIGNONIACEAE”, it’s flowering on leafless stems at the end of the dry season, making the floral display more conspicuous.

The bark of several species is used medicinally. The wood is used for furniture, decking, and other outdoor uses. It has a fire rating of A1 the highest possible, the same as concrete. and is denser than water. It is increasingly popular as a decking material due to its insect resistance and durability. Interesting isn’t it?

    Rajesh,
Was thinking of this post earlier today when I saw this tree in full bloom within the premises of the Byapannahalli Police Station on Old Madras Road! Informative post!
