Pillar of Strength
I had an opportunity to travel to Jayanagar last week for an official meeting and this gave me the opportunity to pass by this landmark that always makes me stand and stare. Well this time, I’ve clicked these 2 snaps which will tell you more about it.
Its so beautiful, isn’t it? As far back as I can recall, I’ve always used the Pillar as a landmark to find my way to meeting places in Jayanagar. I’m sure its a reference point for many other Bangaloreans as well who travel to Jayanagar from other parts of the city.
Here’s the wikipedia link about Jayanagar within which locality (or, at the outer boundary of which?) the Pillar is located. I’m amazed to read that when sites in Jayanagar were allotted way back, they were priced at Rs 1/- per sq. foot. Mind boggling, isn’t it?
The best thing is how well this locality is planned. Feels so good to be there even today. Wide roads with good setback on both sides, pure residential areas. Crosses and mains, hard to get lost there. 4th block area, though crowded now, still Indian, no malls, but teeming crowds. And the Nanda Theater road – probably the best road to walk or drive on in Bangalore.
Wish all of Bangalore was like Jayanagar. May be I should do a picture-post on Jayanagar?
We should thank Madhava Rao who planned the asias biggest layout way back in 1970. Even today jaynagar does not face the normal problems any layout formed by BDA gets like rain water entering houses etc.
The rose garden is a huge lung space.
Kudos to that great visionary
