Marathalli Bridge Update

It is nearly there – the new railway overbridge is almost complete, and hopefully will be ready for use in two to three weeks. The ramp on Kundalahalli side is already asphalted and is partially in use.

That may still not mean that you can cruise to Whitefield uninterrupted. Once the new bridge is commissioned, the existing one will be brought down to construct another three lanes of new bridge in its place. So, what we will have is a slightly wider(3 lanes) bridge, but I am sure it will still be much better than what we have now.

I must also add a note that this is one of the few overbridges in Bangalore that hasn’t seen unreasonable delays, and has taken less than a year to complete(10 month, I guess). The initial deadline was as early as July-06, but the project started only a month before that and now about to be commissioned.

If they are using a three-lane carriageway for two-way traffic (temporarily), they need to barricade the lanes in such way that 2 lanes are used for Marthahalli to Whitefield traffic during the morning hours and reverse it during the evening.

Ready for use in two to three weeks? You are delusional.

They have completed only one of the two poured concrete sections and only one of the two approach roads. And this is for what appears to be only 1/2 of the eventual 6-lane bridge.

I’d say that they are about 15% of the way done, and they’ve been working on it for nearly a year.

They need to pour the concrete for the 2nd half of the first span, then finish the approach road to that side. (3 months my guess).

Then they can open one-half of the bridge.
