Clean-up camp at Mutthatti

Mutthatti is a nice weekend destination, near Bheemeshwari in the Cauvery Wildlife Sanctuary, just about a few hour’s drive away from Bangalore. However, because of the careless and uncivil behaviour of tourists, there has also been a lot of littering around the area.

Volunteers from the Clean and Green Group are now planning the next clean-up at Mutthatti on Sunday, January 21, 2007. The group is looking for volunteers to join the effort to clean the place of the plastic waste littering the picnic area next to the river.

This will be done with the support of the president of the local panchyat and in all possibilities the Range Forest Officer would also be present. Jungle Lodges sponsors a simple lunch for the volunteers and also takes care of the disposal of the plastic collected. All other expenses like travel etc. is shared by the volunteers.

If you are interested in accompanying the group, the person to contact is Sandeep Chakrabarti on or 98441 15315.

    Good stuff!

I’m travelling through India for a while (I’m from South Africa) and, had this been a week earlier, I might have joined.

I’ve just left Wyanad, in Kerala. I walked and walked and walked while there, following guides up Chembra Peak and through Tholpetty Park. Both guides picked up every scrap of plastic en route, most of which escaped my untrained eyes.
