Volvo’s & All the Round BMTC Inventions….

– Lead from Usha’s article in April..

History is repeated, yes as always when it is BMTC…yes I do recollect that BMTC announced in April 06, that their buses will have direction based grid-based route system rather than the traditional radial routes by Nov 2006.

The advantages to the commuters will be reduction in waiting time, convenient short distance transfer points between long distance destinations. A commuter can take a bus from “anywhere to anywhere”. Future plans include convenient parking facilities near terminals in order to encourage car users to use bus transport thereby reducing the pressure on road traffic.

Contrary to that we see this announcement that the new Volvo’s will continue to operate on radial system, as 80% of their routes will originate from Kempegowda Bus Station…now that’s when I say re-invent the wheel…to add to the innovation passengers are advised to send SMS to know the positions of the buses, endorsing that the supply is far less than demand…

I remember a pharmacy store opening in a new residential area and customers walking in with list of medicines and return empty handed as store said that they don’t stock the all the medicines as they are newly opened….you guessed right, 80% of the customers will never rely on this store assuming it’s still not stocking the medicines… and store never will / did well..

If these Volvo buses are not put on all important directional routes run currently, the elegant public transport will never rise and everyone will still prefer to travel in their own cars deterrent to use them or wait for them!! Indeed Volvo’s are comfortable and had made me travel avoiding driving in the city….

Saw this bus on a visit to Jayanagar. But the cost of 4 of us for the bus was a little higher than an auto which would take us exactly to the place we had to go to. So did not get a chance to try it out. But it looks very cool and comfortable. I think it is a very good alternative.
