Bangalore’s 7 Gifts to the World: # 4 – Café Coffee Day!

Café Coffee Day – ‘A lot can happen over coffee’ promises the tag line! So is this café the meeting point for thousands of youngsters in the country? And will its expansion plans see Café Coffee Days in Europe, America and other parts of the world?

It might not be a distant dream folks!

Café Coffee Day (CCD) is a biggest chain of coffee shops with 357 Cafés in 66 cities in India, Recently it also entered into international market by opening outlets in Vienna, Austria and it is also planning to start much more Cafés in major cities of Middle East, Eastern Europe, Eurasia, Egypt and South East Asia.

In the TOI on Friday, December 1, I read that CCD has opened a café in Karachi, Pakistan and plans are on to open 20 more. The chain has received $15 million funding from the World Bank arm International Finance Corporation (IFC), Washington.

CCD started their first outlet in 1996 @ Brigade Road where they served coffee with Internet connection (Initially CCD hosted a cyber Café in their shop), and when it got a great response from the people it expanded in many places in the country.

Today, you will see most of these cafés crowded and full to capacity. It’s only natural for people to meet over coffee, exchange news, make conversation, and even go for a date! Whether it’s in the middle of a shopping outing, a rendezvous with friends, or even a business meeting, CCD seems to be a favorite spot for everyone. I just wonder what we did before CCD existed!

Thanks to CCD also for introducing different flavors of coffee to us. And it not only serves coffee, it also serves a short eats like cakes, samosa, pastries, pizza etc…Majority of the crowds you will find at this coffee joint are of the younger generation and perhaps CCD is doing its bit by pulling them from the pubs!

CCD also involve in Coffee Day Fresh ‘n Ground (which owns 354 coffee bean and powder retail outlets), Coffee Day Xpress (which owns 341 kiosks), Coffee Day Take-away (which owns 7000 vending machines), Coffee Day Exports and Coffee Day Perfect (FMCG Packaged Coffee) division.

It’s a matter of pride to me and I am sure for all other Bangaloreans that a home-grown café outlet is making inroads not only in the city and country, but beginning to expand all over the world. So the next time you go on a holiday to Europe or the Middle East – you’ll feel right at home! At a Café Coffee Day!

There is a Cafe Coffee Day on Kalidasa Road in Mysore. My kids love it. When they are in town visiting their grandparents they visit that place regularly! They have chaat downstairs in the Green Leaf and then go up and have their heavenly brownies(sigh, yum yum yum…).I rarely even get to lick their spoons ;-) Plate gets cleaned by kids and grandparents itself. Very good marketing and they seem to have picked good locations.
Enjoying the series on the 7 Gifts to the World!
