St. Mary’s Church, Shivajinagar, Bangalore
Visited by thousands of believers and pilgrims and celebrated for 10 long days during St. Mary’s feast during the first fortnight of September every year, this church is the only one in Karnataka to be elevated to the status of a minor basilca.
This church has always been a part of my life since my school going days. Praying at this church can give anyone a tremendous sense of peace and calm. Watching the devotion and piety on devotees faces in this church can be deeply moving experience.
Recently this church has undergone a massion renovation. It looks magnificent & grand now what with liberal use of granite and fresh paint. Here are before and after pictures of this magnificent church that is one of Bangalore’s treasures.
I was able to take these pictures freely inside the church. As a contrast, I cannot help but be reminded of the self-righteousness and supercilious attitude that self appointed guardians put on while preventing pictures from being taken inside many of our magnificent temples. But this is just my opinion.

Wow, lovely pictures, Ravi! Thanks for sharing. I will make a trip to this church shortly.
Dear Ravi Kumar,
I thought you captured some nice pictures of St.Mary’s Basilica which highlighted the great diversities of our city…………..but i thought it was shame that you had to end your blog by comparing it to other places of worship, because it kept me wondering what was the purpose of your post at the end anyway?……..sorry.
