Why I love the Magazine Store
If you don’t look hard enough, you might miss the Magazine Store. It’s located in the basement of the same building that houses the eatery, RR, on Church Street. I’ve passed by many times myself without noticing till someone told me about the place!
Rows and rows of magazines are all you’ll find here. On every topic under the sun – motorbikes, health, photography, housekeeping – you name it and chances are that you’ll find something. They have both new and second-hand magazines.
My reasons for loving this place is not just for the magazines but for the 4 lazy felines who loll around the place. Being a feline lover, it’s hard to resist a place like this one. Three of them are Persian cats and are always sleeping or yawning. The fourth one is a street cat that was rescued from being killed by a vicious dog, says the owner of the shop. A few months ago, when she was a kitten she would jump from one magazine pile to the other, playing in the cute manner kittens do.
Now she’s all grown up, and isn’t so bouncy anymore. You’ll find her curled in some corner or wedged in between some books looking pretty and graceful.
If you’re on Church street sometime, do step in and say hello to the cats. I usually land up spending an hour or more browsing around. And don’t forget to pick up a couple magazines while you’re there…

Lovely pics. For once, it was not the shop by itself but its residents that called the shots! Eh?
Wow so many magazines. Have got to check out this place.
Does anyone know of any place where there is a magazine library? Or maybe you know one of those street book libraries?
What a coincidence! Just yesterday, I discovered this place for the first time – and wondered why I hadn’t heard of it before. Thanks for the writeups – and the great pics!
