Great places to catch lovely yummy Idly

Well, the ubiquitous Idly that is sold in every darshini hotel and every other restaurant in town just got a speciality twist. If you thought Idly is only white in color, you have to visit Om Murugan Idly Kadai (shop in Tamil) to realise that it can be prepared in a range of colors!

Talking about Idly, I have a selection of places where I love to sink my teeth into soft, hot Idlies. Om Murugan Idly Shop @ Indiranagar and Suswad @ CHM Road.

First – Om Murugan Idly Shop
Location: 421/2, Krishna Temple Road, Indiranagar, 1st Stage
Phone: 080-55349941
USP: Idly, Idly and more Idly. :-) You can get everything from standard idlis, mini idlis to vegetable idlis, podi idli and Kanjeevaram idli.
Trivia: It used to be known as Cafe @ So Sweet and then as The Legend. It is one and the same place.
Budget: For about Rs. 50, you can fill yourself up completely!
What else? Wait till you see the Dosas on the menu… and then you will come back here for the Dosa experience.

Second – Suswad
Location: CMH Road. Between HDFC Bank and MK Ahmed Retail Store.
USP: A myriad range of Idlies
Budget: Same as Om Murugan. Go on an empty stomach and return fulfilled!
What else? In addition to those Idlies, you get all the traditional fare like Dosas, Puliyogarai etc. If you have not tasted the Adai-Avial combo, ah! What are you waiting for?

Adyar Ananda Bhavan (again on CMH Road) is another place where you can get amazing Adai’s. But we can talk about that later. Idlies for now!

Ravi – I think the place is as jinxed as it can be.

As for the best dosa point in town, VB or MTR would be my choice!!

I used to love Vidyarthi Bhavana buta recent visitor came back saying that the place does not look very clean – is it true?
I also love the dosas at woody’s J.P.Nagar.

While not current with bangalore’s latest frenzies, last time i visited, i loved and enjoyed idly…and dosa at the Food Street, in VV Puram. Check out the dosa/idly maker at my flickr post here –

Yup…The Name food street reminds of good old college days in BMSCE. Whole Gang of 8 people with just Rs 200, used to have a wonderful evening savouring hot jamoons, bajis and Dosa.
