Topiary in Bangalore

Till I came across this comprehensive article in namma Deccan Herald, I had no clue that such a word as ‘topiary’ existed. Though one can see many speciments of this art form in many parts of Bangalore, one generally takes them for granted. Arre, who has the time to see to see all this, we think, before we whizz off to catch that appointment.

Topiary is the skilled art of training, cutting, clipping and trimming of shrubs, foliage, plants and trees so that they take on geometric shapes, ornamental shapes or shape of animals, lettering or numbers

Apparently, this art form has been around since the arrival of the Brits!

However, there is one majestic specimen at the entrance of the supply depot of Army Service Corps on Cubbon Road in the shape of a life-sized elephant shaped out of a tree.

Folks, here is that majestic specimen, brought to you by the one and only….er, you know who!

Top of the line stuff, eh?
