New routes, new features

Have you travelled in the Volvo route of BMTC? Infact, I see a lot more people travelling in the Volvos these days. They love travelling in it, being seen by people outside while they are sitting in plush seats and treated to air conditioning at, probably, 22 deg C. Like being driven in a royal entourage! :-) And more, this is being covered by all major news channels too. Other’s envy… Bangalore’s pride? Looks like it…

The existing Volvo routes ply on the Electronics City and ITPL routes. Considering the good deal of success that these buses are enjoying, BMTC is now starting 2 more routes. According to the news reports, the first service will be from Srinagar to Domlur (No. 201) and the second from J.P. Nagar to Majestic (No. 2). So, more Bangaloreans are going to see these Volvos plying around the city. A definite respite from the sapping heat these days.

And bringing another first to its credit, KSRTC is launching a program called AWATAR – Any Where Any Time Advance Reservation. This is the e-ticketing feature that is going to be brought into effect by April end. Till now, this was only possible for the Indian Railways and Air travel. Now, along the same lines as the railways which has the website called, KSRTC is launching its website which would specifically cater to this e-ticketing requirements. You can read more about it here.

Definitely technology is making travelling to and fro – and within – Bangalore easier. Ab “bus” nahin hua.. yeh dil maanga more!

the volvos look really nice and comfortable and on saturday i saw one which was absolutely full. i haven’t had a chance to use it yet, but i hope to do so soon! maybe, i’ll take a ride somewhere just for the sake of it :) i believe they are increasing the fleet now, but i guess like mehak said, they will need better and wider roads if they are are going to introduce more of these buses.

The roads are okay – I think the buses being plush will be ignored, what I dont understand is the government’s decision to run these buses at a loss!
