Where’s my old Bangalore?

Friend and colleague Bijoy Venugopal guest blogs for IBN live on what it feels like to return to his city after five years in Mumbai and California.

An excerpt: “Viewed from the air, the Garden City is today an expanding maze of concrete. The islands of verdure are gone. The 800-odd lakes that dotted the landscape have shrivelled, devoured by construction projects. From 10,000 feet, it’s easy to see that Delhi is greener.”

It’s time to stop moaning over good old Bangalore. I too miss the old Bangalore, having moved away to the US 24 years ago. But the change juggernaut is inevitable and unstoppable – new things, new ways, new people – that’s how our civilization has survived over the centuries and Bangalore is nothing but a reflection of that “swalpa adjust maadi” tradition… it goes on changing. The challenge is to make the present better.
